  • Buster Olney reports that Texeira is probably heading east, and Carl Ravich says that Baltimore is still in the running.

Texeira will probably hit over 500 career home runs. Go get him Red Sox

Is the AL already discussing who is going to get second place?

A general manager of one of the five teams involved in the Mark Teixeira talks said this morning that in his opinion, if the talks ended right now, Boston would land the coveted free agent first baseman.

"I think they're in the lead and ahead of where everyone else is right now," the GM said. "I'm not sure who's bidding against them at this point."

Asked whether he thought the talks would end soon, he said, "You just never know where Scott Boras and the Red Sox are involved."

I saw a possible 10 year 200 million....but careful of the Yanks swooping in at the very end now that the Sox have given their big offer.

The idea of signing anyone to a 10-year contract scares me, even if he is the premier free agent left on the market. My guess is that the teams in the running feel the same way so my prediction is that the team that signs him does so for 8 years with team options for two additional years or a buyout if the options are declined. Even at 8 years though, I think there's a good chance it'll still cost $200 million.
  • I wish the Twins would at LEAST be involved in the talks when big names are out there, we are so close, a big bat like his would be nice. I well, we will be there (division champ) anyways!

You guys already have a good 1B though. So do the Sox, but lucky for us, he also plays a solid 3B. I know what you're saying though. It's too bad that with the games richest owner (at least as far as net worth goes) that the Twins don't shell out more $$$ to compete. It seems like a few free agents mixed in with all the homegrown talent is a recipe that works for other teams so why not the Twins too?

The Red Sox have made it pretty clear that they dont do 10 year contracts- at least thats what the Boston Herald quoted John Henry as saying. They will do 8 but not 10, I hope they can work it out as I really believe we need a another big bat in the lineup.

I'm pretty sure Peter Gammons sniffs glue.

The Red Sox do need another big hitter in the lineup. Manny when in the right state of mind is pretty much irreplaceable, but Tex would be close.
