Why does the ball sound so different coming off NBA as opposed to college basketball rims?

    3 Guesses:

    1 - Audio on college basketball broadcasts may be different (possibly inferior)

    2 - NBA Basketball stantions may be higher quality thus the rim would be just a hair tighter

    3 - I believe the composite used for NBA and college basketballs is actually a different kind of material.

    Just throwing out guesses.

    I think the rims are a tad tighter in the NBA...seems like you don't see nearly as many shots bounce over the backboard in college.

    the rims in the NBA are made out of Palladium, college hoops are made out of silver

    interesting. I would think the rims as well, but what about when they play at someplace like MSG for a college game? Do the rims still make that 'college basketball DONG!!'?
