Before I even read the decription of the thread I said "that is an easy one" That was the first game that came to mind.

Can it ever be topped? Don't think so. How many guys today would play the rb position with a freshly separated shoulder??

    I know, no one image

I was actually at that game . It was a huge game for the Cowboys, it determined home field advantage and a first round bye in the playoffs

Gutsy performance to say the least by Emmitt

    229 all purpose yards.

    168 rushing yads

113 yards came after the shoulder separation. I remember he was still stiff arming people with the injured arm out of habit image

Oh yes, I remember that "separated shoulder' game - Emmitt should have been inducted into the Hall of Fame for that game alone, and I'm almost not kidding...what an amazing effort.

Nobody beats Jack Youngblood playing with a broken leg throughout the 1979 playoffs.

How about Dean Youngblood playing with stitches in his face?

It was great watching that game again. Smith always played well in big games and usually had good stats. Since he had such a long and great career you often forget how dominant he was during the first half of his playing days. It also seemed like Madden had a man crush on Smith prior to Favre b/c he was loving him in that game.

    LOL

Really though, Madden is just a fan of "old fashioned play with one eye hanging out, smash mouth football"

He appreciated guys like Favre and Smith playing the game how it should have been played. Both Smith and Favre could have played in the 50's era the way they played/play.

Agreed, a lot of people got on Smith to retire and Favre as well, but those are two guys who love the game and the competition. I wish more players shared their passion for the game.

I was at the local watering hole last night and they had the game on. What a great display of guts and talent by the NFL's all time best running back.

I remember watching that game! Didnt Emmitt catch a short pass and take it down so the 'Boys could be in FG position- thats how I remember it.

Yes he did. He touched the ball every time on the drive besides 1 play that Johnston made a catch for around 10 yards.

Yeah and he did the same thing in the superbowl to follow. He took over that game towards the end

His performances in championship games and Super Bowls were some of the best ever. Especially when running the ball becomes more difficult the deeper you get into the playoffs.

OK... let me stir some shiot.

Emmitt's perfomance in that game and his post season greatness is just another reason.............

    Hi Matt,

Just out of curiosity. Have you ever met (or want to meet) Mr. Smith? If so, what is he like in person?

With as many kids Matt has, I'm sure Matt could have been emmitt's dance instructor.image
