Hey MPL Guys!!! Question....

For some reason I have in my memory something about some silver plated Matte Proof Lincolns. I thought I remember someone talking about them. I know I saw one on eBay a couple of years ago. Anyone know anything more about them? Thanks in advance.

I've seen a few that were told to be done at the mint. I've not read anything from the mint records stating such occured.

    Paul-

What happens is guys try to dip their copper coins in the same solution that they use to dip their silver coins. Hence, one ends up with a copper coin with a silvery apperance and silver ions on the surface of the copper. David Bowers did an experiment with a lab spectometry device about 10 years ago on a 'silver looking' Indian Cent, and this is what he found from the spec reading - silver covering to bronze coin. The article was in the Numismatist, I believe. Hope that helps.....
