My Raw 1955 Topps Set (pics)

Just thought I would share. I recently completed it on a relatively small budget. I'm happy with. I think this is the best looking Topps set every printed. Too bad it doesn't have a Mantle.

Now I'm working on a raw 55 Bowman and a raw 58 Topps.

great looking set, steve!! how long did it take u to complete??
and good luck with the 58 set--i'm working on that set in psa 7 and 8--its been almost a six year project (started in january 2003)--as i write this, i need 11 cards (i'm getting like a card a year if i'm lucky)--my friend is working on the set in just 8's--he needs only 57 cards and is quickly gaining on me (and he has five of the 11 cards i need so if we combined our two sets we'd still need six cards)--i actually collected the 58 set raw back in 1980-81 when i was 12 & 13. i'm also collecting the 59 set in psa 7 and 8 and am about 440 cards in.

    good luck with your sets!!

Those that are familiar with the 1955 Topps baseball set know that the there are only 206 cards in the "210" card set. If you look at the cards scanned above more closely you will see that he actually has 3 other cards scanned above that also look as sharp as the Herb Score card. They are from a 4 card set that includes Score, Feller, Musial, and Ford that was called something like "the cards that never were", and I believe that it was produced as a giveaway for one of the past Nationals.

Yep. Topps went back and printed the four missing numbers a few years back.

Here is an eBay listing for a set of them: LINK

Very nice SS. That is a fun set to collect. Not too large, not hard to find, the design is easy on the eyes. Definetly my favorite.

The "mug shot" on the 55s is identical to the one on the 56s on every single card except for one or two. I didn't know it was that bad.

  • SS,
Thanks for sharing with us your cards. When I started collecting cards again 3 years ago I decided to work on the 55's, I'm glad I did. Since than I have completed a set in PSA 6-7, and I also acquired a raw complete set that I have updated to Excellent. I enjoy the beauty of the cards and the rookies are nice too. Even though there is no actual Mantle in the set there is a phantom Mickey Mantle that was put out at the 2006 National and it is card #211. Gary

Very nice, my favorite set growing up! I am about 14 cards away from completion myself, with one or tow more 8's or 7.5's I should barely crack the top 20 upon completion
