With 5500 Rushing and 3500 Receiving yards at 29 years old?

    Nope

I dont doubt it... he wont accumulate alot more considering his injury prone-ness...
but you could argue, he's been ARGUABLY the best RB in the game for a couple years now...

Not so much this year, but in the previous five, there's been a running back in San Diego that has been the best back in the game.

And he hasn't missed much time. You're right about injury prone. Westbrook has NEVER played a full season.

Good all around back. Not ever the best. Not going to be a Hall of Famer unless I'm missing something.

Marshall Faulk... Priest Holmes.... Ladainian Tomlinson...

The BEST running back in the game is not the BEST for too too long as evidenced by my list above. It seems like yesterday Faulk was all-world in the NFL, then Priest... then LT.... I suspect Adrien Peterson will be the next BEST back...

Westbrook has never been the very best in the league but the past few years he has put up GREAT #'s but his injury prone body has limited his #'s

Tomlinson is a bit of a wussie, it remains to be seen if he'll EVER be the same after he dinged his knee.

    1 injury and done.

btw, I said you could ARGUE.

Im checking stats and while Westbrook will be hard pressed to get to 10k rushing yards, his combined yards and TDs will overshadow a hall of famer like Ricky Watters.

(figuring, similar back numbers, similar offensive systems)

  • HyperionHyperion Posts: 7,440 ✭✭✭
holy crap. Tomlinson's numbers DWARF his numbers. still, that being said, he's on the downside IMHO.

    he's not what he was.

Keep in mind Watters is NOT in the HOF yet- his bad attitude might actually keep him out.. Still he has 10K+ Rushing along with 4K + receiving not surefire HOF #'s

Yes, Westbrook has been injured a bit too often and that can't be discounted, that being said, I would take a healthy Westbrook over any of those names mentioned, that's right...any of those names mentioned.

ah, I thought he was in. I was listening to the radio and I thought they said that 10k is pretty much the magic number.

usually my gauge for HOF is, could have have been considered arguably the BEST in the game for any non-trivial length of time? IMHO, westbrook might been in his couple year window with tomlinson suffering from his injured knee.

3 more great years by Westbrook and he's in...

Westbrook could possibly be the most well conditioned athlete in the NFL. Yes, he's been injured but that's just his body type - he recovers in full and always plays as well as before, and I expect that to continue for a number of years.

Brian Westbrook is damn good. He is in my HOVVG. Take him over Faulk or LT in their primes? I dunno.

People forget how versatile Faulk was and he played in a great system. The "Greatest Show on Turf" years I wouldn't take Westbrook over Faulk. Also Faulk was very healthy during his prime.

Priest was a flash in the pan runner like a Okoye or Terrell Davis.

I'm certainly not trying to compare Westbrook with Faulk, who should be a Hall of Famer.

12,200 rushing yards, 6800 receiving yards for Faulk. Compare that with Westbrook.
  • stevekstevek Posts: 29,038 ✭✭✭✭✭
Tough to argue against Marshall Faulk...but I've seen Westbrook make something out of nothing so many times...he is truly remarkable. Comparing the two I guess would be like comparing two nice 10 carat diamonds.

As an Eagles hater, I can still appreciate the greatness of Westbrook. He may not yet be a HOFer, but for several years he has been the only offensive weapon on that team that I feared going into a game. And more often than not, I'm sorry to say, he was enough to get a victory for Philly. He's one of the best all-round backs of his era.

  • He finished first one time in yards from scrimmage. Then he finished sixth one time. No other top tens.

Someone mentioned that he was the best in the game for a time period. If someone wants to say that he was possibly the best in 2007, then maybe. But I don't see him being the best for any other time period...except maybe a stray week here and there.

He will be 30 next season, and he doesn't have enought accumulated stuff now to achieve any all time rankings.

No, he isn't a Hall of Famer now, and he won't be when he is finished.
