Help with an unopened 1966 Topps BB Pack

I just picked up a group of unopened packs in the October Mastro auction and one is a 1966 Topps BB pack - I'm trying to determine the series. I've included a couple scans, wondering if the ad on the back might help identify the series. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks - Andrew

can u see who the top or bottom cards showing through the wrapper are?? if u can see both or at least one, then we can try to proceed from there (if u can see both of them and they're both from the same series then that should be a telltale indication of what series its from); i have a 5th series gai 8 pack that has a different offer on the back than yours (for real baseball sunglasses), so maybe we can already eliminate 5th series as a possibility since yours has a different offer--the funny thing about mine is that its got drysdale showing through on the back and the geniuses at gai didnt even bother to note this on the flip!! (they did note that its a 5th series pack, though--go figure!!)

was this pack (and the others u won) raw or was it graded and u removed it from the holder??

I am relatively certain that it is a 5th Series Pack with card #418 Phil Gagliano showing on the back.

Edited to add: Unless some wax were mixed series, the available cards in series 5 are from 353 - 429 with Roger Maris, Brooks Robinson, Al Kaline , and Juan Marichal being present in that series.

2nd edit to add: Please don't open it based on my information because although I feel confident about my information, I would feel bad if I were wrong.

Thanks for the quick help - it definitely does look like a Cardinals player showing through the back.

This pack was already raw - I am not going to open it, but was thinking of sending it in for grading

I'd send it in, it looks good and the slab will protect it.

    Nice item, thanks for sharing.

If I'm not mistaken towards the end of a series those packs would contain some of the next series cards.

Griffens or Grote would know more.

    Duncan too.

good eye, nam!!! at first i thought u were joking and just pulled a random player out of mid-air, but i slightly adjusted the angle of my laptop screen and now i see exactly where u're coming from--good work!! (so much for me telling statman that its not a 5th series pack, eh??!!)

statman--now u just need to find out who the top card is (should be another 5th series) just to satisfy my curiosity--or nam just needs to use his x-ray vision once again!!

1966 Topps Don Drysdale, card #430, is actually the first card from series 6 (as per the checklist).

it was just a lucky random guess from Nam.

So then I was correct? It is possible to get some series 6 cards in a series 5 pack?

Yes Steve, it is. I believe that in almost every year in the 60s (and probably others as well) they made mixed series packs. I guess near the end of the 1st series they started producing the second series, which is why there are mixed series packs around. I know I had at least 3 or 4 1967 mixed series (1st and 2nd) cellos.

Steve, I just now realized that your avatar is the little guy on the 1966 checklist.

Really? I thought it was 1980 Jim Kaat.

You know I have that set and I noticed that a few years ago too, however the person that made
the icon told me he modeled it after the 1980 Kaat. Perhaps I misunderstood him.
