Grab your Jan '09 SMR and let's review!

MILE HIGH TWO PAGE SPREAD - The largest consigner will receive a trip to Hawaii. Let me dig through my box of '87 Topps and you suckers are goin' down!

FYI, DA Card World doesn't particularly care for high grade '52 Mantles, '86 Jordans, or '33 Goudey Ruths. Good, that's one less person to bid against. image

707 SPORTSCARDS AD - He must have had trouble filling the page, as he has one section that says he's selling 1951-present Topps in PSA 1 through 7, and then another section where he says he's selling 1951-present Topps in PSA 8 to 10. A simple sentence saying that he sells all Topps cards other than PSA 7.5 would have sufficed, wouldn't you think? image

MINT STATE AD - Let me guess, Rick Snyder is going through a mid-life crisis and back in '82 could throw a football a quarter mile? image

TAKING MY HACKS - Interesting read from Captain Joe, but isn't it a little ironic to read a story in a price guide about how we never really know the value of anything? Anyway, for future reference, this is on page 14.

TABLE OF CONTENTS - Page 17. I'm no magazine editor or anything, but shouldn't the table of contents appear before any actual articles? Maybe they should have put in a table of contents for the table of contents?

'52 TOPPS ARTICLE - Cool read, and I never knew of those Mantle variations.

The actual SMR - After reading Joe's column, I don't know what to think about all those prices. I'm confused. image

PHILLIP J. MARKS AD - Hmmm, a Lyman Bostock autographed card from 1978. I understand the significance of such a card, but I think it's in slightly poor taste to include it in an adverstisement.

SIRIUS SPORTSCARDS AD - He's trying to merge with Levi, but the SEC is holding up the deal for no good reason. image

I like how there are giving prices for more of a range of grades!

And I liked how they made the print smaller to fit more prices!

    lol

    Steve
    Good for you.
  • SMR finally seems to be using the (-) sign for decreasing prices on cards from the 70's. In actuality they need to put minus signs across the board on all 60s and most 50s cards in mid grade as well. For PSA 5/6 from the 1960s I have been picking up stars for anywhere of 33% to 50% of SMR making this a guide which does not guide.

Minus (-) sings should dominate the guide, but it is bad PR so you all know the story.

I am just stating the facts here.

I haven't recieved an SMR for the last 2-3 months. When I missed the first one, I sent them an email and let them know and they did send one out to me within a week. But since then nothing.

And frankly, I couldn't possibly care less.
