Should I also get the 1971 Topps coins to go with the 1971 Topps set I'm working on?

Okay, all of you know I love 1971 Topps (and I'm very close to about halfway finished on getting all the PSA 7 cards I need; I haven't started on getting the raw commons/semistars yet), but yet I'm also seeing the 1971 Topps coins and I think they look pretty interesting too. Does anyone here collect them? If so, I have a few questions:

1. How many coins come in the complete set (remember, I'm all about complete sets) and what's the going rate for a raw set?
2. Are these coins closer in size to Kennedy halves or Ike dollars? That will let me know what size Dansco album (blank kind of course) I should use to store them.
3. Is it true they actually made the coins in three different kinds of metals? If so, which ones?
4. And lastly, please tell me that these coins do not rust. If they do, how do I prevent it?

Absolutely under no circumstances should you get the Topps Coins. Stay away! Stay far away!

    1) No clue

    2) Probably a little larger than a quarter

    3) The coins were made of lead and cause brain damage. Remember these were made in the 70's.

    4) Try a little WD40. It works on the coins I have.

Collect what you like. My guess by your response there is not a big following for coins.

    I'll play the straight guy:

    1. 153 different coins, maybe $200-250 for a exnm set?

    2. Half dollar sized

    3. No clue but there are two different colored backs, silver and gold (insert rudolph jokes here)

    4. I have around 70 of them, mine have never rusted but then again I don't keep them in the bathtub

The coins make an interesting contribution to the chat-value and the show-and-tell value of the set.

If you want something that would be relatively easy to build and kind of fun to have, I say go for it. As some have mentioned, there doesn't seem to be much value/demand, but the chase is always the fun part anyway...

I believe these coins will rust , just like the 1964 Topps Coins , if not properly stored ! As for starting the set , I think it would be a nice complement to your '71 Baseball card set ! I checked the Beckett Almanac , and according to them , coins 1 - 51 have a brass back , 52 thru 102 have chrome backs and coins 103 thru 153 have blue backs ! Coins measure 1 1/2'' in diameter ! Highest priced coins listed were the Clemente coin and Willie Mays ( Last coin in the set ) ! I have the Lou Brock coin , and they present very well in a Psa holder !
I have a complete 1964 Topps Set ( Robbie's 1964 Topps's Set ) in the set registry , and I've thought of doing the same thing , collecting the 1964 Topps Coins to complement my set ! I remember throwing these coins away in the trash can , telling my Mom and Dad that they would never be worth anything , along with the Baseball Bucks ! I did save the Lou Brock coin ( even thou he was in a Cub uniform , but since traded to the Cardinals that year ) ! I remember a Mantle being thrown away as well , since I really hated the Yankee's back then ! I really regret trashing them now !
Good luck with your '71 set , and I think you would have fun collecting the coins as well !
