Has anyone seen this PCGS slab?

Ebay auction

Has anyone seen this variety of PCGS slab?

I thought I had seen them all but I've never come across this one.
If it's legit, it's obviously a second generation one (the first generation
was the only one I've seen where it doesn't say "PCGS" on the
front of the label).

Thanks for any help you can provide.

  • It's legit... perhaps condor could shed some light on the dates of use. I think its around 1990, perhaps earlier, but could be mistaken.

  • Yes, this is very legit, I too have had them, and since have had them reslabbed into new holders for my sets. Hope this help you, by the way, did you see the carbon spots on that coin, upper rt side?

Yes. Have a couple of them still. Light UGLY lettering. Sort of like alot of Coins that come out of SouthWest Washington State. Geez: Is that where Vancouver Is ???image
  • Yes, they are legit, I do have two or three of them. I believe they are second generation (came after the original smaller holders, the ones where the coins rattled). They have the perforated edges as they were severed from their edges (as were normal dot-matrix, continuous form feed paper) and entered into the slab.

I am not defenite of the date, but I believe they were circa late 1988/1989 and ultimately became the green labels that were around since late 1990/1991.

I also love Major Circulation Strike Type Sets, clad Washingtons ('65 to '98) and key date coins !!!!!

If ignorance is bliss, shouldn't we have more happy people ??
  • Sorry, I didn't clarify this in my previous message, but the green labels have the perforated edges

Thanks guys. I can't believe I haven't noticed one of these before.
Maybe they were just made for a short period of time.
(I have a bunch of first gen holders)

Yeah, Dennis I saw the carbon spot. Thanks though.

Hi Dennis, nice set of dimes. And I have a question about Mercs. How rare of off-center mercs??? I have 2 sitting in the bank box. But I really don't know much about them....

    Thanks

That is what Conder101 has cataloged as PCGS #2. It was in use in 1989 and was the second slab issued. It was the first PCGS holder to have a hologram on the rev after the old holder rattler was counterfieted.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

Mad Marty: Those Off Centered Mercs are Common. Send them to Me.image
Actually they are quite Collectable and depending on Date and Mint Mark could be worth quite a few Bucks. Merc Errors are around but I do not think you could call them common.
I will still stick with the first statement. If you dont want them Send Them To Me.image
