Sad story: Former NBA player paralyzed after ATV accident

I remember Rodney Rodgers coming out of Wake Forest in the early 90's. The article below says that after he retired from the NBA, he couldn't just sit around so he went out and got a regular job even though he was set for life financially. He became a heavey equipment operator for Durham, N.C. His boss didn't even know he was wealthy or an ex NBA player. I like that. They actually promoted him for a supervisor position. It sounds like he did it on his own merits and not because they knew he was a former NBA'er. Sounds like a pretty good guy. I hate to hear bad news like this.

Sounds like a class act, that's a true shame.

I was a rodney rogers fan when he was at wake, a local kid was playing guard (marc blucas) and I watched them any time I could. Thought he would be an NBA star.

Blucas went on to an acting career on Buffy and has been in a bunch of movies.

Really sad to see that happen to Rogers. image

Sad story...did he play the same time at Wake that Duncan did?

Edit-I saw Rogers got drafted in '93, I guess he didn't play there when Duncan did.

Duncan was a freshman the year after Rodgers left, so they weren't teammates.

I hadnt heard about Rodgers' post NBA activities. He took a job and no one he worked with knew he was a multi-millionaire ex professional athlete? That's pretty impressive stuff. Sounds like he's a true class act. Really sorry to hear what happened to him.

He was drafted in the 1993 Draft. I think Duncan came the year after Rodgers was drafted.

Yea for real, it made me sad to hear that as well. Thankfully he is alive and there's still hope that he can walk again. Keep Mr Rodney Rogers in prayers.

Rogers was the reason the 01 Celtics went to the East Finals. He was a huge spark off the bench and had a great stroke from the outside. He'll be in my thoughts. What a shame.
