OT: Anyone here fluent in Portguese?

I have an eBay buyer from Portugal who speaks virtually no English. He completely ignored the shipping terms outlined in my listings, and is insisting that I ship using methods I don't use (and cannot insure through), and undervaluing the parcel for customs.

I'm willing to give him options to get the transaction completed, but the communication barrier is killing me.

I'm looking for someone to either (1) act as an interpreter, or if you'd prefer not to be in the middle, (2) could you translate some text I write into Portuguese so that I can send it to him (I find that automatic translators like Babelfish do a horribly poor job).

The 2 worst experiences (and negs) I've ever received on eBay were both with buyers who spoke no English whatsoever and didn't understand either what they were buying or what the terms were. I'd really like to avoid that scenario again. image

    I had a Portuguese bidder who ignored my payment terms and wanted to pay me with Western Union, which I do not accept. He/she didn't have a PayPal account.

    I made this person snailmail cash, which was a little nerve-wracking for the amount involved.

    But it worked out in the end. Thank goodness this one could communicate in English passably well.

    I'm mostly fluent in Spanish and can therefore pick up the general gist of things in Portuguese sometimes, but to offer myself as an interpreter would be a cruel joke, I'm afraid.

    You don't accept Western Union money transfer? Why not??? I would INFINITELY prefer that to PayPal, especially if there are fluency issues or the ship-to country is iffy with respect to its postal system.

    For the seller, WU is a no-brainer.


    P.S. Translation obtained. Issue resolved... for now... I think... maybe...
