Yes, IT SUCKS, but as long as you guys are OK that's what really counts. You can always buy stuff back in the future.
As some people on this board know (I am new here, but have been on the eBay boards for years) my little girl was diagnosed with Cancer 5 years ago when she was only 3 years old (she went thru over NINE HUNDRED consecutive days of Chemo) and then 11 months ago my wife was dignosed with Breast Cancer. Even with great insurance it was a tremendous financial as well as emotional burden. I was forced to get rid of most of my collection and I consigned it to Mastros in the past two auctions. I had over 250 graded packs from the 50s, 60s and 70s, in excess of 1,500 graded (mostly PSA) cards from the 30s thru the 70s, including the ~#15 1968 set on The Registry and many raw sets. TWENTY FIVE YEARS of collecting ... all down the drain. ANYWAY, I only got about 65% - 70% of the FMV, but I needed the money, like you do now.
Am I happy I had to get rid of the collection? HELL NO, it eats at me EVERY DAY! But the medical bills are now paid and my girls are CANCER FREE! One day ... one day I will get back some of those great items.
GOOD LUCK WITH EVERYTHING. You will back collecting what you want in the very near future!
Stay Healthy!

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
enough or the bs, where's the cardboard for sale!!!??

Those all being said, this is only a $1,000 deductible (unless there are other expenses you haven't mentioned). If your day to day money/collection money has such a fine line between the two that you don't have a spare $1,000 in the bank to save your collection from having to be sold, then perhaps this isn't the right time in your life to have a collection of considerable size.
Hope everything works out for the best.

Some financial planners reccomend putting away 1 or 2 grand in cash in a safe deposit box in case something like this comes up. I've done it myself, and it has come in handy. You don't draw interest, but its not in a checking account where it can be spent more easily.
I'm happy to hear you escaped major injury.
My wife died in a terrible accident a few years back on Christmas Eve.
I can't begin to describe how quickly I would part with my whole collection just to hear her voice again, yet alone see her and hold her.
Count your blessings and thank God for sparing the lives of everyone involved in your accident.
Never put materialistic goods on any kind of pedestal in life.
Again, I'm glad to hear you're okay

If in a CD you may suffer a penalty for early withdrawl.
Sorry this happened to you but like mentioned glad everyone is ok.

I checked the cards you have up for auction - but I also checked your feedback.
I wonder how many buyers will get their cards???

yeah, look at the feedback.. see that in the last 2 months i have sold a SGC graded N28 mike Kelly, 1948 Bowman uncut sheet, half a dozen graded Roger Maris cards.. look real hard..
poppaj i'm sorry to hear about your loss, must have been devastating.
collecting RAW Topps baseball cards 1952 Highs to 1972. looking for collector grade (somewhere between psa 4-7 condition). let me know what you have, I'll take it, I want to finish sets, I must have something you can use for trade.
looking for Topps 71-72 hi's-62-53-54-55-59, I have these sets started
PoppaJ, I am so sorry for your loss, and I'm glad you shared it with us. Your loss humbles me.

Life itself and cherished loved ones are beautiful gifts beyond words.
Puts our little hobby into perspective, eh?
Carpe Diem.
The car can't be done within a week so IMO a 7 day auction would be so much better.
I dunno, 3 days may work too.
