Sold a coin on ebay, the buyer paid by sending me coins? - edit : Spoke to ebay, after they laughed

  • Did your auction have a statement on payment? I am sure it did. I do not think it saw bater for chickens, old bricks, or other items.

Also, where did he get your post adress to send you the chickens?....That would concern me.

I think a little compassion is in order here. The buyer may have some mental illness and may need some real help. At some future day anyone here could start acting in an irrational manner similar to this guy.

    I agree with Perry...........

Don't you get the buyer's phone number along with their shipping information still? Maybe give him/her a call..............

If they turn out to just be a D-bag, then commence with the ripping on the forums!!

  • I agree with the mental illness statements. This could be an 80 year old man with Alzheimer's or dementia . Don't be a jerk, just try to call the guy and asses the situation.

File the NonPaying bidder report to block his feed back access.
Send the album and coins back by postage due with signature service required by the sender only.
Give him ten days to pay as contracted, then file for a refund of listing fees.
    Tell us who to block.
Relist the item and hope for better results.

I agree with the comments about showing compassion towards someone who might be mentally ill. But do note that he didn't send Double Eagles.

My theory is the buyer made a deal with another eBay seller and got two transactions mixed up.

I too have some nasty old AT and dipped typed coins that I would like to dump, err trade with you!

  • << <i>I love ebay!

I get a best offer from a buyer. I see the number and it is close so I accept it. On this sale I had free shipping so there was not much to talk about.

A week later I get a Dansco Large Cent album with blank large cent pages and with a few low grade large cents in it. I had no idea what is was for. I guess it was worth about $60-$75 or so.

Yesterday I get an email from this guy as to where he $225 coin was. I told him he did not yet pay. He told me he sent me a $25 album and $200 worth of Large cents. ( I guess the going rate for Ag common date coins is $25 each?)

I am sure this story is not over. >>

You should have told that his calculation was incorrect and to send you the difference before you will send him the coin. 20,000 x .01 = $200

<< <i>Sounds like the right thing to do is send him a note that the terms of the auction were paypal only and offer to send back his album with the shipping COD. If he refuses file a non paying bidder and still send them back COD, worst case is he refuses the coins and they come back to you. At that point you might have legal reasons to keep them as a gift.

He did not contact you to determine a value for the coins he sent you and there is no written record so good luck.

Can't wait to read the resolution. >>

    image

Or, you could calculate the return postage and ask him to send you the return postage amount before you send it back, in hopes that he will send you an old album with a few scarce variety Seated Dimes in it as return postage payment. image

    update:

The buyer got an unpaid strike, still is refusing to pay for the coin but has offered to send me $25.

Ebay has told me that trading is not allowed and if I report him he could get suspended. (General help chat)

The buyer has filed a claim for non receipt of the 1864 S dime and has taken the position he has paid ( using the delivery confirmation for the cents as proof)

I don't see how he can file this with an unpaid strike but he claims he has, I have not been able to get a response from powerseller support in 3 days ( I am guesses they have no idea what to tell me)

I have had some great stories on Ebay but this one just leaves me speechless, more to come soon .........

  • in order to sidestep the NPB complaint, he will need to show some sort of proof of payment ie money order number, check number, something. just let it play out. sounds like the guy is a few boards off. i laughed when i seen this thread, not because of the content, but because it happened to someone else. make sure you keep any emails from the guy where he even hints at admitting that he sent the large cents as payment. he sounds like a complete tool. good luck jason !

That's because you sold the coin on Ebay's sister site without realizing it. www.ebarter.com. You're fortunate you didn't get a goat and two loaves of bread. image

There are still places out there who still barter for services and goods, looks like you got one still on a hot wire. Thing is though, both agree to the deal at hand before the exchange is even made. The items are examimed, tested and the deal is consumated with a head nod or handshake. As each party walks away with their portion of the deal, it should be the last time they will ever have to see of one another again. Done Deal

Kind of hard when only one player is out there on the field and the other doesn't even know they have arrived to barter. Good luck!

My daughter just sent me an Ebay link for some Ugg boots she wants. The seller is in China and has 0 feedback. I should probably forward this thread to her, titled, "don't ever send me an ebay link again!"
  • jmski52jmski52 Posts: 23,281 ✭✭✭✭✭
Does this mean that ebay isn't enforcing their new "electronic payments only" requirement?

Delivery confirmation shouldn't mean squat if ebay really stands behind their policy. (Yeah, I know - good luck with ebay standing behind anything.)

If you get negged for this bs, it only amplifies the serious stupidity of their new policies regarding electronic payments and not allowing sellers to leave negative feedback - while allowing buyers to use any kind of feedback coercion or threats of negative feedback to push sellers into a corner that they don't deserve to be in.

Has anyone found a reasonable alternative out there yet? It has to happen, sooner or later.

Enough seller are going to get to the point where they seek legal action in a class action law suit against Ebay. You can't supply a couple of people with a buch of guns and meth and then claim no responsibillity when one of them shoots the other one.

it is really unreal. He is taking a position he send me $200 worth of coins (based soley on his opinion) and Ebay is buying it. Will they take thier $200 off their fees if I mail them the crap he sent me?

I have now wasted at least 5 hours on this "claim" Ebay does not get it. They just want to make the buyer happy with no regard for the seller. Guess a 100% positive feedback and powerseller status does not go far these days.

I want to mail this guy back his crap and get paid but if this joker negs me I am going to give away the coins here on the PCGS boards. May as well as under postal laws it is a gift.

Ask ebay if you can pay listing fees using those coins, since they think they're worth $200 tell them you'll accept it from that guy if they'll accept it from you.

    It's ridiculus!!!!!

Why waste anymore time with this nut, just tell him one more time that payment is due and his coins will be return to him along with the coin that he brought from you if he pays and ignore him after that. In the end one negative does not mean anything.
