What is your favorite Mantle card and why?

I am a big fan of Mickey Mantle cards. Besides being one of the best investments and most sought after cards, the legend of "The Mick" makes him seem larger than life. I never got to personally see him play as Im only 33 but I've watched him on film several times and read about him and his stories. What is your favorite or a few of your favorite Mantle Cards? Mine would be between the '59 regular issue because of the color and overall card appeal and the '61 All Star because that is just a cool looking card.

i would offer my kids as a bartering tool, but they aren't worth as much as this particular card.

The 1960 Topps is my favorite, the 52 Topps 2nd, then 51 Bowman, 55 Bowman, 56 Topps, 65 Topps
  • Not his most expensive, but the 1956 Topps card in high-grade is a stunner.

I love the look of the '53 Topps card. But the '57 Topps is also right up there.

  • 1962 topps #200, easily the best mantle card, the woodgrain border made this my favorite set.

    1956. My first Mantle card.

The '51 Bowman is a classic and the true rookie imo. But, this is my favorite to look at; 1962 Topps Manager's Dream ('61 All-Star game, Fenway), Mantle, Mays, Banks and Aaron in the same shot... Best of all, the backdrop is the Green Monster!

  • I love the 58 Mantle. My dad has one that he thought he had lost. He actually thought it was stolen from him by a kid that used to some over to do odd jobs. One day I was going through some random modern cards my dad had and there it was! My dad was so happy he gave me $100!

I also really love the 53.

The 67 Mantle should be used at AA meetings as a deterrent for drinking. It's so sad to see a guy who was so youthful and vibrant in his mid 20's to look that bad by the time he's in his mid-late 30's.

1952 Bowman...nothing else comes close for me. I like the pose, look of the card, artistic overtone and its a young Mick

The 1969 Mantle is pretty cool because it was his last regular card. You can check out his stats from his entire playing career.

To me, there is no other Mantle card that mezmerizes me like a beautiful well-centered 52 Topps.

But there are many oddball issues that I really enjoy. The Micks 1968 Bazooka card is probably my favorite of the bunch, not just because its his last Bazooka card, but because of its size and rarity.

Here's a few pics of some of my favorites that I've collected over the years .... (because some of my other photos were stolen for dubious reasons in the past, I've chosen to cover the certs of the cards below)

Not a card, but I've always thought this was a cool piece...

I'd own it if psa would grade it.

    edited to add:

I really like the '56 as that's my next set building project.

My 2 favorites would have to be his '56 and '60 Topps. The 56 is a beauty of a card and I like the style of 1960 set.

    My favorites in order:

    1) 1952 Topps Mantle RC - My opinion the most BEAUTIFUL card ever made.

    2) 1956 Topps Mantle - Triple Crown year and I love the artwork. The 1956 set OVERALL is the best set to own.

    3) 1953 Topps Mantle - Again very nice artwork and I love the color on it.

    4) 1960 Topps Mantle - I like the picture of mantle smiling and on the side him in his batting stance.

    5) 1951 Bowman Mantle RC - Nice artwork but definitely not my favorite of Mantle. I consider his first Topps card his true RC...

    6) 1957 Topps Mantle - OK picture.................nothing else to say........too dark for me.

    7) 1958 Topps Mantle All-Star - Neat card and I really like the background.

All the other Mantles I really do not care for because the photos suck. To me the later cards portray Mantle aging and slowing down.

This is my 1956 Mantle PSA 8.5

1952 Bowman is my favorite, why? Well it is an early example of his, is from a mainstream set and to me anyway is a lil work of art.

The one I least like is the 67 Topps.

My favorite would have to be the 1953 Bowman Color. The pose just reminds me of how a baseball card should look like. Me likey...

Heck no that's not mine, I borrowed it from the set registry. I'm no where near that league. I like looking though! image

    Hi Tommy,

none of our 52 Mantles have been graded yet.

all 11 of them are sitting in a safe deposit box.

my sons and I, as I've mentioned in a couple other posts, have decided to take a trip to California next year to personally get them graded by PSA.

I've been wanting to do this for quite a few years, but something has always come up.

Hopefully, the good Lord will keep me healthy until next July.

My favorite Mantle card is the 1959 Bazooka. For those of you who are not familiar with it, it came on the back of a Bazooka bubble gum box. The card size is 2 13/16" X 4 15/16", a large card. The pose is absolutely great (in my opinion). I'm in the market for one, but they seem to be fairly hard to find. The two or three on eBay seem overpriced.

Always looking for Mantle cards such as Stahl Meyer, 1954 Dan Dee, 1959 Bazooka, 1960 Post, 1952 Star Cal Decal, 1952 Tip Top Bread Labels, 1953-54 Briggs Meat, and other Topps, Bowman, and oddball Mantles.

Topps 1957 #95. Why? this is my only real Mantle and I won it from Topps in 1996 in their contest.

My favorite Mantle card would have to be a 68 or 69 just because I had them as a kid and ended up hawking them when I was around 18 when I was hurting for money. Maybe I will get a 68 again because it's the year I was born.
