Bid higher next time, Barnyard1908. If it's something you really want, add $10,000 to your max bid and bid at the last minute. A nuclear bid will win every time, and you only pay one increment more than the underbidder.
I started doing buy it nows, with a price at .01 under PCGS price guide and telling everyone to send their best offers. Has worked out great and you would be suprised at how many people are just buying at that price and not sending offers.
<< <i>I was just outbid on a coin and wasn't even the underbidder. How's that coin recession I keep hearing about on this board? >>
I honestly think that as Laura Sperber said, only the sub-par material is what is hurting. I deal many in toned material, what many would consider "above-par" and I haven't noticed any drop in purchasing. Sales have been very strong for me over the past few months. Heh, even coins with milkspots that I've had sold for good money...

What if....
What if two people use this same philosophy?
COuld you not end up bidding $10,018 on an 18 dollar original bid?
I got out bid on many error coins tonight. Quality Major error coins have not seen a drop in prices. Many are one-of-kind. The mint really cracked down and not many get thru anymore. I don't seen how prices can go down much.

What about two people with a million dollar "nuclear bid"? Good grief. LOL

is that an indication of a lack of bidders?

<< <i>prices realized seem to be suffering, don't they? >>
Not that I can see; however, proof type is supposedly one of the most active segments of the market right now.

I've seen a few 3 legged Buffalos and Morgan toners in the past few days go for PCGS prices, but not much else.
I lose many, many auctions, because I'm cheap. But I don't get caught up. Still I've got a nice collection.
There is always another coin a few hours or days behind.
