Do old PCGS Population Reports have any value?

As collectibles or research tools?

I've got this stack of 20 or so and am trying to pare down my library. Do I toss them into the recyling bin or?

I'm pretty sure the oldest June 1990 (being spiral bound) is desirable but what about the others?

examples: 8/92, 5/93, 7/96, 7/97, 6/02

The data is certainly useful for research. However, an electronic format listing historical pop data would be far more user-friendly. If that's ever made available, I'd trash the hard copies. Until then, keep them.

You could use them to start a study of vanishing high grade coins; put them on the sign-in table at a coin show and price them at $20 each - someone is bound to steal all of them; or, just recycle them.

I never did have much use for the hardcopy PCGS Pop Reports as the online registry reports are accurate to the day so when a new one arrived via snail mail, the old one "left the building"!

I have a hard enough time keeping track of the crap I really need much less something thats just dead weight to carry around. image
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

Things you can do with old pop reports:

    1. Quantify gradeflation.

    2. Identify the time of the release of a hoard.

    3. For a rarity, determine the likelihood that a "new coin" is in fact an upgraded "old coin". (That's important for extremely rare coins, where one more coin in the market matters.)

I've sold quite a few old pop reports (and bought several others) for sometimes surprising money on eBay. So yes, they do have value.

I'm still looking for any copy from 1986 and '87 for my library, if such issues even exist.
    When in doubt, don't.
