Instead of concentrating on the actual date, look at LIBERTY as the IBERTY is very weakly struck on the 70-S Small Date.

    1970-S Small Date
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

    Defintely a large date.

    The things to check are:

    SD:
    Liberty gets weak on berty
No crease on the 7 (where horiz top bar intersects vert bar)
Top of 9 is egg shaped
Inside curl of 9 ends in a point
Top of date is almost level

    LD:
    Liberty is strong (on most)
    Crease on 7
    Top of 9 is round
Inside curl of 9 is blunt
Top of date is not as level

If a seller truely believes that he is selling a rare coin, even when shown the obvious truth, he will never change his auction simply because he believes that others are trying to rip him off more than he believes the obvious. And who really knows, maybe he purchased this from a B & M that said it was a "Small Date"?

As for getting ripped off, unless the auction closes well above $18.00, then there won't really be any ripping as it is still a 1970 Mint Set which does have a higher premium than a regular mint set of that era.
