What pack gives you the best bang for the $ (1970--1990)

I am a huge RC collector so my list is based primarily on RC cards and big name HOF'ers. There are packs in the early 70's that have great RC's and Huge HOF'ers but the pice tag is just a little bit to high for my wallet.

No particular order.

1975 Topps BB
1977 OPC BB
1978 Topps BB
1981 Topps FB
1981 Donruss Golf
1983 Topps, Donruss BB
1984 Topps FB
1986 Topps FB
1987 Leaf BB
1984 OPC H
1987 Topps FB
1988 Fleer Bask
1989 Score FB
1989 UD BB
1989 Fleer BB

My name is Rob, I'm a rip addict, I haven't ripped in a few weeks. I'd go with the 75's.

    You're kidding, right?

The price for those packs/boxes is totally out of proportion vs. the value of the singles.
  • If you are referring to the potential for profit after grading, 81 Donruss golf are usually pretty good. One Nicklaus in a PSA 9 pays for half the box. A 10 usually sells for more than the box costs. Plus, you can usually make two complete sets from one box. My box I busted last week was the exception.

Although i dont collect much basketball anymore since the game became "skill-less", but the late 80's packs seem to be decent. the 88-89's are great, especially is you get a box with great centering on them.
IT IS ALWAYS CHEAPER TO NOT SELL ON EBAY
  • how about getting a well centered box of 84' Donruss? image
  • '84 Topps Baseball.

    '88 Topps Football.

    Two I've enjoyed.

I know Hockey is not super popular, but how bout 81 OPC Hockey. Listed below is SMR which is likely on the high side, but of the big cards with the exception of Moog, Cicarelli, and Savard if there are any pop 10's it is only 1. Messier/Bourque second year cards and soon to be HOF and one of the nicest looking hockey sets in my opinion. Great super action cards and 6 Gretzky's.
