Got my results on my cracked out 1911 Matte Today

I always felt the coin had dirt on it so I..cracked it,

gave it a soak in acetone that lifted a lot of dirt and submitted the little rascal raw hoping for a 64 R&B.

But she came back still a 64 BRN..still a good enough keeper for me.

Labels matter far less than the coins themselves. Having it in a PCGS holder alone speaks volumes about the coin's originality, and the simple fact that you like it should be good enough. Still, hats off to you for being brave enough to crack that coin, and congrats on avoiding the BB monster.

This was my third try of resubmitting mattes and my score is 2 of 3 for upgardes. Lucky? I think a bit, but I would not have done it if the coins did not look like they could. In fact, I think a lot of the rascals sitting in current plastic could do better. If you have that curiosity, give it a try for $50. You might surprise yourself.

You are lucky it did not down grade. I guess the spots are not that big. Did you honestly think it would GEM?

You had to see the coin before it was acetoned. It had a dull almost gritty ash color. Just around the profile and letter you could see crimson peeking. The Rev, was great. So no, I was not expecting a grade upgarde, but I was expecting a R&B designation.
