answer me this

roughly 5 times in the past year on ebay i have had someone offer me $1 on items i have listed in my ebay store as BIN with make offer. its not the same joker either, it was 5 different people. now these are not cheap items. they always are in the range of $150-$2000 items. here is the question... what is the point of offering someone less than 1 percent of the asking price? why not just ask for it for free? its not like they are trying to open negotiations. if they want to be added to my blocked bidder list, a simple email would suffice. any other sellers on here have the same experiences?

They're just negotiating. Reply to them with a counter offer of $1 less than the BIN price. Then they counter with $2. Then you counter with $1 less than the previous offer.

In less than a year's time, you'll reach an agreement.

I would agree, They just want to negotiate. I would reply by uping the sell price by 10% I.E. $150.00 OBO just became $165 to them and then Block the Buyer!
  • I thought I remember there being a way to setup a minimum bid part of the auction that would automatically reject the offer under a certain amount.

You can set an auto-reject ammount on each BIN/BO item. That way you don't need to bother with this stuff.

I prefer to be conservative with the use of my blocked-bidder list, and reserve it only for folks who actually cause trouble (e.g. buying and not paying, feedback terrorists, etc). As I see it, a clown's money is just as green as a businessman's.

I had one joker who used up his 3 offers with $1, $2, and $3 on a $100 item. The next day he hit the BIN and paid promplty.

I BBL both unsolicited offers and lowball BOs.

The one thing that history has taught me about EBAY stores
is that if I leave an item in there long enough, somebody
will come along and buy it at MY price.

  • i have honestly made silly bids just to piss of douchebag sellers image I love it when the reply with angry comments in the listing.
  • I wouldn't make an offer that wasn't reasonable. If I'm interested in a card, I don't want to insult the seller, or make them mad.

I make unsolicited offers on auction style items frequently...that's just to cut the heads from the other snakes who collect Thomas cards too. I hope I've never gotten blocked for it! I never ask anyone to deal off of eBay...though, most of my unsolicited offerees want to do it that way. I've been lucky thus far.

Certainly, but at the same time, I've gotten items at 10% of BIN price because the BIN was so outrageous.

    Yes. It is "harsh."

And, I am NOT recommending that others do what I do; ONLY saying what I do.

I list items in stores to get retail prices. I tell folks in the listings NOT to make
offers. The price is the price. I often raise/lower prices several times a day; my
repeat buyers - and watchers - know that they only need to wait for a price they like.

I seldom sell in collectibles, but my policy is the same in all categories.

In real life, I haggle all day long. I simply don't want to do it on EBAY. My "need"
to sell on EBAY is ZERO; my "want" is substantial. If I cannot get the prices I
want, I could not care less if anything sells.

NOT a good policy for everybody. ONLY a good policy for me.

People that make a 1.00 offer on a 200.00 card are not negotiating.

People that make a 140.00 offer on a 200.00 card are.

Anyone that offers a buck for such a card needs to be ignored.

This is a smart attitude. We can't expect that all people think and behave like us. Sure there is a line one must draw, but its important not to alienate too many people.
