Why no half-grades?

I'm pretty new to collecting graded cards, and was wondering why many people are not interested in the half-grade cards? I notice that most colletors who boast impressive complete sets generally don't have any half-grades, and half-grades on eBay tend to sell for much closer to the lower grade than the higher grade.

Am I missing something, or is it just sort of an unwritten thing in graded card collecting, like I would rather have a PSA 6 card than the same card in PSA 8(OC).

  • Its not that people aren't interested. Its only recently (within 6 months) that PSA started grading cards with half grades.

Oh, well that explains it. I did know it was recent (well, at least more recent than when PSA started grading cards at all) but I didn't know it was that recent. Thanks.

Most people that are not interested in the 1/2 grade system more than likely already have low pop cards and want to keep it that way- meaning if you have a PSA 8 and say there are only 5 other psa 8's of that card and 3 out of those 5 psa 8's end up being an 8.5 ( yours doesnt get the bump ) it takes away from your card being a "low pop" , at least thats the way I see it.

As far as any unwritten rule goes governing straight grades as opposed to qualifier's ( IE: "OC" ) it is a matter of personal choice.

Hope this helps? Im sure more experienced collectors here may give you better examples.

For a lot of people it's just not worth resubmitting when they have no plans to sell.
