What's the best investment if you had $1,000 or $10,000?
If someone had $1,000 or $10,000 to invest in sports cards/memorabilia, what would be the best way to invest it? This is a two part question - part 1 is for $1,000 and part 2 is for $10,000.
$1,000 - I am not sure yet.
$10,000 - Without giving it too much though, I would have to say a 1952 Topps Mantle in whatever grade you can find for that kind of money. That card simply does not loss value.
We all know that some cards will loose value over time, and some will probably never lose value.
Another thing that I am thinking will never loose value is a Babe Ruth signature of some kind. I think one of those could be had for less than $10,000, couldn't it?
I just thought it would be an interesting discussion. I don't have that kind of money to throw down on anything right now, but who knows - I might in the future.

BUT, I would park the cash in the bank for a little while and let
the prices come to me; they will.
One is for fun and one is for money. That way I can have fun while agonzing over my investments.

If I lived there, I would likely be a buyer today. Matching trucks are always fun.

Probably best to wait a while on any expensive memorabilia "investments."

Brett's '75 Topps card is arguably the most collectible card of that entire decade.
Sound Great?
I guess not!!!!

<< <i>lol that will never go down? no such guarantee unfortunately. some have a high probabilty of keeping their value. High grade key rookies from Hall of Famers. (PSA 8 or better) >>
I realize that there is no guarantee. What I mean by "never go down" is just like you said - "high probability".

In 1995, low/high Beckett price for a 52 Topps Mantle was $15,000/$25,000.
In 1997, low/high Beckett price for a 52 Topps Mantle was $14,000/$24,000.
In 2000, low/high Beckett price for a 52 Topps Mantle was $12,000/$18,000.
In 2003, a friend of mine wanted me to sell him one of my 52s; he tried to convince me that the price was eventually
going to come down to $5,000 for a mint 52 Mantle, but he knew no matter how hard he tried ... I wasn't going to part with them.
He wound up buying one from a local dealer for $10,000. It was a real beauty and though he thought it was way too much for the card at the time ... he sure has laughed his way to the bank when it was awarded a Near-Mint/Mint 8 from PSA.
Yeah, even the 52 Mantle had it's ups and downs, but I doubt if those days will ever return again.
As far as buying stock goes, there may never be another opportunity like now to buy so low and make a ton of money.
I recently purchased 20,000 shares of P&G (Procter & Gamble) stock @ $58 and sold 'em today @ $63.
I'm kind of partial to P&G since I retired from there in 2002. But there are tons of other opportunities out there.

What are you doing here man, talking with all these bozos...
You could be buying tons of vintage with that $100,000 gain.
