WINGS

What is WINGS?

I will provide an answer later... I just saw and noticed this for the first time today. I am asking this in part to see how many others are as far behind the times as I am...

I know what it is, but I wouldn't expect an average collector to know or even care.

In view that I posted this over 24 hrs ago, I will now write what I remember which really means I should have done this earlier. WINGS is similar to CAC and now I can't remember what it stands for... I think that part went in one ear and out the other. World International Numismatic Grading Service or something like that... The stickers were gold and shaped like the CAC sticker and at first, thats what I thought they were. I don't know if they have some color code that designates the coin as PQ or the significance with ORIGINAL that appears on the sticker.

(ahem...clearing throat) I think our friend Hus could tell us the weird turn of events that brought this to light

First of all let me just clear up the fact that I am not affiliated with the company.

    WINGS stands for:

World Identification and Numismatic Grading Service

it all started after my post in this thread:

    http://forums.collectors.com/messageview.cfm?catid=6&threadid=661296&highlight_key=y&keyword1=wings

After my post in the thread someone approached me and said they liked the name and could they use it?
I agreed, and to make it legally binding and to transfer the ownership of the name they asked me if I could make a written statement transferring the name which I had made up to them. I typed up a statement and got my solicitor to sign as a witness, so that they could own and use the name in their business venture. To make the contract legally binding they sent me a nominal amount in the form of a cheque as payment for the name.

To be honest the payment was small and I wasn't doing it for the money, I just wanted to help someone out whom liked the name and wanted to start up a business. I have started a couple of businesses up before myself and know it isn't the easiest thing to do.

I honestly know very little about the person/company that I dealt with. I don't know if they have a website or not. The only thing I do know is their name, but I don't really want to post it as it isn't my place to do so. Since they initially contacted me through this forum, my guess is that they or someone they know reads the threads so they might be able to tell more?

If you do a search on Google you might be able to find more out but I have never tried.

They did say they were hoping to launch the business at the Baltimore coin show, but as I live in the UK I have yet to visit a US coin show and I am not sure if they did or not.

That's about all I know if that helps?

    Regards,
    Hus

Just for the record, I did "assume" that WINGS was some sort of CAC copycat. I wanted the coin that I imaged in my earlier post, so I bought it. It happened to have a WINGs sticker on it. I don't give a crap about the sticker but I haven't yet bothered to scrape it off the slab. -Preussen
