I find penny sleeves to be a necessity with regards to my cards that I have in 8 pocket sleeves in binders. They are the only way to prevent the edge of the card being exposed. I agree with passing on them when sending in a sub but they are not completely useless.
Just because cards are slabbed with the appropriate grade, doesn't mean the damage wasn't caused during slabbing.
PSA cards are reviewed after encapsulation, and if the cards were damaged during slabbing and the reviewer catches it, they will be removed from the original slab and placed in a new one with the appropriate grade just like any other card would be that was overgraded.

You dont really think they check each card after encapsulation do you? There is no way the check every card. From my experience subbing too many cards to count, all my cards that were damaged were caused by the slabber. Every one of them I sent back, the service rep that helped me said they either were pinched in the slab or crushed in the slabbing process.
Of course all the dinged corners were also caused from improper installation in the slab. I still have a few here that are so bad, a blind man would have seen the damage.

Cards were mailed today penny sleeve free. Rube, you are quite an opinionated person. You don't happen to be a Wide Receiver in the NFL.....are you? But seriously, I appreciate your help and will post scans for the boards once I get the cards back.

I had an order with several vintage commons that went down a few grades during the review process. They called and told me they figured they had damaged them during the slabbing process since the reviewer knocked so many of them down a few grades. They told me to look over the cards and see if I thought it looked like that was what happened, and of course I was going to agree. When I received the cards, they were slabbed with the grade the reviewer had re-assigned them. If they're reviewing vintage commons after they're graded, then I assume they're reviewing everything vintage. Maybe they skip that stuff with common modern cards or just give them a quick glance - I don't know - but it takes about five seconds to glance over a graded card.
