Coco Crisp traded for Fruity Pebbles

Actually, for some reliever named Ramirez from Kansas City. Not sure how I feel about this. I guess the Red Sox are going
to go full speed ahead with Ellsbury, Drew, and Bay. Let's hope Ellsbury can come up big next year.

  • I like the deal. A half decent reliever to help in the late innings. Okie and Hernadez I believe can make a good pair to set up Paps for the 9th. Plus, it sounds a little like a salary dump too. I think Coco was going to make a little less than 6 mill and I am sure Hernadez will be in the 400-500k range.

Ramon Ramirez was very solid last year (71 games, 2.64 ERA). We picked him up before the season for Jorge de la Rosa. This makes 2 solid young middle releivers the Royals have traded for offense thus far after the Leo Nunez/Mike Jacobs deal.

The concensus is that we have a glut of solid young pitching in the farm system, and it seems that we are planning on using that to fall back on so we can deal the more established arms for some offense, which we most definitely need.

Sox fans, ask yourself this: who would you rather have coming in from the bullpen in ANY inning? Your choices are Ramon Ramirez or Mike Timlin.

Good trade, I hope Coco does well in KC!

SOLID logic right there. The contrast makes me giddy with excitement for next year.

I also hope Coco does well in KC. He was a real trooper this season and didn't complain or quit on the team when he didn't get to start all the time. Coco's a good guy with a great glove and I still think that he can be a really productive hitter if he manages to stay healthy.

so...will the Sox sign Gabe Kapler as their #4 outfielder? I figure they need an inexpensive, decent right-handed bat for #4. How cheap is Baldelli? Or will the Sox move Bay, put Youk in Left, and sign Texeira? Hmmm, hot stove season is pretty cool.

Me and a buddy said the EXACT same thing today! Coco never reached the expectations we had of him when he arrived from Cleveland but all in all I wish him the best.

Doubt they will move Bay. They will go after Texeira...if they land him...Youk will go to 3rd..and Lowell will leave Boston.
They'll dump Crisps, Lowell, and V-Tek's salary. If they don't land Tex...then they'll sign Lowell again probably.
No way V-Tek is coming back to Boston. The kid from Pittsburgh will be catching for us soon.

Lowell's contract is not an issue for 2008, 9, or 10

Baldelli is an intriguing choice for a 4th outfielder given his health status. That alone should prevent him from ever feeling slighted by not getting to play every day since he is phsyically not able to do so. But when he is feeling up to playing he still has talent.

Another free agent I was thinking about is Ken Griffey Jr. He's still pretty good with the glove but he could DH occassionally too. I'd love to see that swing wrap some baseballs around the Pesky Pole for a couple seasons too.

Griffey, no thanks. Totally unimpressive on the White Sox this year.

Agreed. And let's go with some youth on this one too. Baldelli is broken down IMO. His swing looked bad this year.
Maybe Goot could inject some good insight here.
