1964 Centavo.. a problem coin

Any idea what has happed to this coin and if there is anything I could do to save it?

The coin is of a nickel-brass compostition that corrodes easily. It may have just got wet a little bit. Unless you want to just practice conserving coins, I don't think that this coin is worth the trouble. It is an inexpensive coin that is easily available. I also think that with the nickel-brass combo used in these it would be difficult to conserve. Not a very good composition for coins in my opinion. JMO. Bob
