BCS Question - U$C

If U$C runs the table they could easily end up 3rd or 4th in the BCS but probably not 1 or 2. However, if Oregon state runs the table in the Pac 10 then Oregon State is Pac 10 champ and gets the Rose Bowl bid. Does that mean the Holiday Bowl could get a 3rd ranked USC team? Or is there still room in one of the other BCS bowls? We need a playoff. My small brain can not keep track of all the rules.

  • The style points need to start flowing. The win over Stanford was nice, but to have any hope of getting into the discussion for the national title there need to be blowouts of mega proportions over Notre Dame and UCLA. If Oregon State wins out and takes the Pac-10 title, forget the national title for USC. There's no way a Big 12 team, like Texas, would get passed over by the Trojans. USC needs either Florida State to beat Florida, and for Florida to beat Alabama, or for Missouri to win the Big 12 title to get into the discussion. The humans will be big fans, but the computers don't like the Trojans, ranking them eighth.

    Rose Bowl

Dream matchup: USC vs. Penn State or Oregon State vs. Ohio State. Either one of these matchups would be intriguing. The OSU vs. OSU game would have the nation's top freshman QB (Terrelle Pryor) and the nation's top freshman running back (Jacquizz Rodgers).

Nightmare matchup: Oregon State vs. Penn State, or USC vs. Ohio State. But neither of these rematches would work at all.

    Fiesta Bowl

Dream matchup: USC vs. Texas or Penn State. We're all assuming it'll be Utah or another non-BCS conference team in Phoenix, but if Utah and Boise both lose, it'd be worth it to the cagey Fiesta guys to pick USC to replace the Big 12 champion, and hope to get Texas with their follow-up choice. Wow! Still, an undefeated Utah would be fine against the Longhorns or a one-loss Texas Tech, too.

Nightmare matchup: Missouri vs. BYU. If you're going to have a team from a non-BCS conference, you want it to be undefeated and ranked in the top 10. (This would presume an upset in the Big 12 championship game and Texas advancing to the BCS title game).

    Sugar Bowl

Dream matchup: Alabama vs. USC. Even with a loss to Florida in the SEC title game, Tide fans would be sufficiently geeked for a big Sugar date with USC. This would be a great game.

Nightmare matchup: Florida vs. Cincinnati. The Gators would be sorely disappointed and probably wouldn't travel as well as hoped, especially to face Cincy. And hey, this could happen (see Orange).
  • To summarize, if USC wins out, but Oregon State wins the trip to the Rose Bowl, then USC will get a BCS bowl bid, and will
likely go to either the Sugar or Fiesta Bowl. However, that is all subject to change being that there is a lot of football yet to be played.

Being a Floridian I know that UF would still bring a HUGE crowd, despite the opponent. Alums are spread out all over the nation and any chance for a UF fan to see UF play football will be seized.

I'd be more worried about Cincy traveling to that game than UF, seeing as how their average attendance is practically 1/3 of UF's (roughly 30K vs. 90K) and they don't have as great a football tradition.

It's not that USC sucks, it's just that everyone knows that if they played in the Big 12, or the SEC, then
they would be just another 8-3 team. I watched USC against Stanford on Saturday. There were holes so
big that two Andy Reid's could have easily passed through them like bad chili.

yeah you are right, but then again the Big 12 has been a two team race most of the time in the past. The SEC isn't as great this year(minus Bama/Fla).
PAC 10 sucks, ACC isn't even on the map. SC needs to grow some balls

The Mountain West is 5-0 against the Pathetic 10 this year.

Texas Tech and Oklahoma have swiss cheese defenses. Texas is only a little better.

LSU would have been a powerhouse this year if Ryan Perriloux wasn't kicked off the team.
Bama, Florida, Georgia, and a Ryan Perriloux LSU could beat any team in the country.
The top teams in the SEC aren't as strong, but the bottom feeders like Vanderbilt, South Carolina, Ole Miss (who beat Florida),
and Kentucky are more solid then the bottom feeders in any other conference.

That's always a great argument... the woulda, coulda, shoulda.....

I would be rich if I had shorted the stock market 3 months ago.

I know my Pac 10 is way down this year. No question. The Mountain West could be better than the Pac this year. Very sad.

It seems the SEC and Big 12 are both at the top this year. You could make arguments both ways. If Troy Aikman would have not transferred from Oklahoma to UCLA maybe Oklahoma would have become a quarterback U and thus be a powerhouse today!? image
