I didn't win this. I got busy today and forgot about it until after it closed.
I think this is a reflection of where things are headed.

2. no scan of the back
3. turn the damn card horizontal!
cost them some money with the presentation. Otherwise its what? $150 card? in this market it should still fetch $100-110, someone got a nice pickup.
Soon, it will be REALLY GOOD to have cash.
.........
There were lots of bidders on that card, too.
NOBODY wants to part with cash.

I agree with that - I guess the "guessing game" comes in of should those with cash buy now or wait for even lower prices?
But except for the highest grade Mantles and key, very popular cards such as that...there's little doubt that 6, 7, & 8 type cards of most players are gonna go down in price, and I believe they could go way, way down over the coming months.
I agree with that statement also. I'm looking for a 55 Clemente psa 6 and the last one went for $1400.00. I offered the guy $1225.00 at the start of the auction and he wasn't interested. The really nice and popular cards seem to be holding their value.

Just a guess, but the "rich", the "wealthy" collector with their vintage 9's and 10's or "expensive type cards, can basically "afford" to keep their cards - while the "middle class" collector with their 6, 7, and 8's are more likely to need to sell them for a variety of reasons - We'll just have to wait and see how things pan out with the economy.
Could be the same way with dealers - I doubt if "wealthy" Levi will ever lower his prices much if at all, but some if not many dealers could get caught in this squeeze and need to sell at below market prices just to generate some quick cash for their personal needs.
I agree the biggest key cards will hold with no problem. I think you will see all other cards, high grade and mid grade make a small drop and some great deals out there.
I have noticed though that some auto'd stuff has become more affordable. Ive picked up a couple of toughies lately for peanuts.

1988 Donruss Mark Grace PSA 10 = $117.50
I had 2 of these, and offered the other to the underbidder at a discounted $100, which he jumped on.
Economy as it is, I still managed to sell not one, but two 1988 Donruss cards for $100 each!
Thank God for recession-proof buyers!

I don't see the money I spend on the hobby as just an expense (well maybe for the boxes I rip), it is more like an investment. I know there is a liquid market I could sell the cards if I had do. I view my hobby dollars as money parked somewhere else besides my pocket.
Plus the drop in gas prices may have put more hobby dollars in people's pockets.
<< <i>I think hobbyists in general have above average income or wealth and may not feel the entire brunt of the recession. It does take a decent amount of coin to get into this hobby. >>
Not neccesarily. This hobby like any other is only as expensive as one wishes to put into it. Granted, I've spent a good deal of coin over the years myself but then again, I'm perfectly content with say, PSA 7's from the 1970s and then (later on) PSA 6's from the 1960s. Granted, it may not be "keeping with the Joneses" mind you like say, the PSA 10 collectors, but they're still the same cards, perfectly collectible grade and appearance. The only difference is the price and a number.
I myself am only a grocery cashier, but we still manage to make it work.
