You have got to be kidding me ? 1960 #350 Mantle PSA 9

Look at the lower right to left centering on this baby. I don't think it gets an "8" today. T/B doesn't look too great either. Somebody paid 5K for this card on a Mile High auction in October. Remember buy the holder and not the card ! chaz

I really try to stay away from cards that are graded with this type of flip.

I know it's an old flip that is why I said it probably wouldn't get the 8 by today's PSA standards. chaz

PSA was using 0 flips as recently as last yr. So I'm not certain this is an old flip.

Some of my best purchases were 'old flips'

WinPitcher- if that's not an old flip, then uh oh for PSA .......... chaz

There's an old saying, I think it goes something like "buy the piece of cardboard, not the piece of plastic" or something to that effect.
  • WinPitcherWinPitcher Posts: 27,726 ✭✭✭
I don't see anything wrong with the card or grade. Would I pay 5k for it? NO

Not sure what the problem is?

Steve- look at the lower bottom right centering and compare it to the left lower side. It looks like PSA 7 centering to me, it's way off. chaz
  • WinPitcherWinPitcher Posts: 27,726 ✭✭✭
I see it, the card is horizontal, so, perhaps it slid in under the 'eye appeal' thingy.

    I wouldn't mind owning the card, I just wouldn't pay 5 k for it.

    Steve
    Good for you.
  • I'd appreciate it more if it was in an 8 holder. Or they forgot to put the O/C on the flip.

Not only that but it's got the "diamond cut" going on too. chaz
  • ARE YOU KIDDING ME???

The best pitch to start a hitter off with is always strike one.
  • pretty card.
    even better horizontal image

I think this card grades higher in the horizontal position.

The real question here should be how much would a centered Mint 9 go for?

We can debate here all day long if this card is an 8 or 9 or a 7 for that matter.

The bottom line is what would a perfectly centered 9 go for?

    Good for you.

So Chaz ( and others) are you saying that if you sent this card in raw and it received the PSA 9 which it did
you would have called PSA up and demanded it be re graded? That it should be a 7 or 8?

I wonder how some of you guys would be 'seeing' this card then.

    Steve

    Good for you.
  • I'll enjoy my piece of crap 6.

There's a hole in my head where the rain comes in.
  • I'd be willing to bet that it's trimmed on at least one edge and possibly two.

  • << <i>I'd be willing to bet that it's trimmed on at least one edge and possibly two. >>

I'll guess left and top based on the horizontal
  • WinPitcherWinPitcher Posts: 27,726 ✭✭✭
Lee that is a whole another story. I did not like the left edge when I first looked at the card.

My neck hurt for about a day after too.

As for the cert number has it been decided when it was graded?

04..... I think were done last year.

But PSA does grade handcut cards. Just not sheet cut.

    P.S. Hi Chaz.

Steve- I would be shocked if I got a 9 on it. I would not send it back for regrading and I guess I would let the market determine it's value which is what happened. I hear a lot about buying the card and not the holder which is a lot of bull. I guess there are different grades within the grade like centered 8's for years always commanded a higher premium even though it is still an 8. chaz

Chaz, the person that bought that card may have liked it for the amount he spent.

No one has still yet said what a centered beast of a 1960 Mantle in 9 would go for.

Lets say the card is not trimmed, the corners are sharp, the color is all there, I assume the gloss is too.

aside from the centering (which IMO) is not as bad as you claim it to be the card is decent.

I have seen worse examples is all I'm saying.

I like HighChoppers better. By the way is that PSA 9 holder a little frosty or is that just the scan?

For the 3rd time, does anyone know what a MINT 9 hi end 1960 mantle goes for?

I too prefer the Ex/MNT card, but then again that is the grade I collect the most.
