Found a "double headed" quarter in change last night.

It's a 1986-D on the obverse with a 1987-P on the reverse. (shouldn't it be the same date on both sides if you'r trying to dupe someone on a coin toss???) Anyway, the 86-D looks like the reverse was very carefully grounded out leaving the original edge and then an a carefully grounded 87-P was placed inside (glued?). It's very obvious when you drop it on a hard surface as it sounds like the drop of one of those gold foil chocolate coins. It looks like someone put a lot of time into this, somewhat well done in my opinion.

What you have is the product of a Unimat Lathe.

    Ive made these....from pennies. ( a 59 D wheatie wannabe)

Chuck in the one, scoop it out, Then thin the other and trim the edges (the difficult part of the operation)

    Epoxy, or solder together.

A nice way to spend an afternoon, except you cant run the little unimat motor for long periods of time, you need to give it breaks to cool.

    ambro51,

Do you think this was well done or sloppy in you opinion?

IMO, A sloppy job indeed. Very easy to tell! I've seen some that are very hard to tell.

  • Pretty obvious gap. I got a Kenny once, couldn't tell except weight. Had a Q inside, which had a dime in it.

I recently got a rotated reverse Kennedy which turned out to be one of these.

I guess the maker forgot how to put it back together again. image
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

    The name is LEE!
