Anyone recognize this ancient guy?

This one is about 25mm and appears to be bronze or copper. I don't recognize the bust and there's not enough writing for me to figure it out with my limited knowledge of ancients.

  • Looks like Trajan to me. It's often spelled Traiano on coins and it looks like that could be the legend on the front. Interesting copper, I don't remember enough from my collecting days to identify it though. 25MM is generally an As, but this looks much cruder than an Imperial As. It almost looks like an eastern city coin, but it doesn't appear to have greek legends so I'll have to defer to someone with better knowledge.
  • i'm thinking its Carcalla...193-211 A.D
  • Could be a youthful portrait of Caracalla, but I'd be more inclined to think it's a mature Elagabalus. The city is Antioch in Syria.

A grade is an inadequate report of an inaccurate judgement by a biased and variable judge of the extent to which a coin corresponds to an undefinable level of an unattainable state of preservation. - Never tell me that grading is science.

It's a Roman Provincial, from Antioch, Syria. The reverse is Tyche seated on a rock, similar to this one of emperor Severus Alexander. Given this likely time period, I'd guess the emperor on yours is Elagabalus.
Waste no more time arguing what a good man should be. Be one.

Apparently I have been awarded one DPOTD. B)
