Fake Ripken

I emailed the seller. If he doesn't change it, will you assist me in reporting him.

He went at great lengths to come up with this lie even saying his Dad helped discover the error.

Cards are fake.
Not printed. Photocopied.
On photo type paper.
Never seen a 89 Fleer B/W other than Bill Ripken
I have seen around 50 of these.
Sheet size is wrong and a pic is on billripken.com
Beckett has acknowledged they are fake in print 2x.
PSA,SGC and GAI agree.

auction

He says this-

You are bidding on a 1989 Fleer Bill Ripken Test Run FF card. The card shown is One of Three that I have. The truth is my Father once worked for Fleer. The cards came to him as an early Test Run. The card is black and white. The card is not of the same card stock / thinkness of the ones they sold in packs. The card is thinner. The card has on the back Test Run A616-1988-101. The card has a glossy front. My Father told me that himself and another guy he worked with are the first to bring it to Fleer attention of the mistake that was on the front of the card. My Father told me that Fleer asked for the Test Runs back from the employees but he did not give up the three he had. This auction is for ONE Test Run card. I may put up another, but I will be saving one for myself. This is a chance to really own a piece of history. Many people have been collecting these cards for years but I have never scene Test Runs on ebay. If you have any questions please dont be afraid to ask. Shipping will be $3.00 for the USA and $4.00 for Canada. Card will be shipped with care in a bubble mailer with top loader. Good Luck

I think he should get the appropriate bids for something of that magnitude, and then the appropriate feedback for being a scumbag.

    Reported as counterfeit.
  • Donovan,
If you check his feedback, he has a positive that simply states that he did not send with DC#. That auction was for a $52 card. This one will obviously not reach that. Maybe someone hereimage can win it, pay for it then file the PP claim?

This guy is such a fraud! I bet Christopher Wrestling isn't even his real name.

    Thanks

Hate for someone to get took. More important than $ is all those who are seeing this thinking they are real.

I bought one in 2003 or 04 and paid $40. Thinking they were real. Never seen one before and there was none others listed and no completed sales. The next day there was at least 5 listed. lol

Had this typed into the Ask A Question form and when I clicked send, it said item was ended image

Was going to try a different approach

    Dear Seller,

Hi - Cool card. Did your dad work for fleer for very long? My dad worked there from 88-91. He used to bring home all kinds of cool stuff. It's what got me interested in cards. My dad's name is Raphael Lewis. Wonder if they knew each other.
    Good luck with the auction
  • zep33- Did your Dad really work there? If so, can I talk to him?

I emailed and told him his story was bologna but entertaining etc..

    The seller said this-

Thanks for the info the card is now off my site and no longer to sell. Chris

LOL no I made it up to see what the guy was up to - sorry

seems he wasn't trying rip people off any way - my message still went through though, so I'll see if he replies image

No problem. Thought so but had to ask, in case.

wasnt trying to rip off...???? Said his Dad gave him the B/W proof that his Boss at Fleer wanted back etc....outright lies.

yeah should have worded that differently - kind of meant won't be ripping anyone off now

    Gone.

  • What if his Dad did lie to him and the seller thought it's real. " Yeah son, I discovered that error too". lol My buddy painted a funny picture of him sobbing, going up to his Dad, "Dad, a guy from billripken.com contacted me today....." lol

I told him it's fake and how you can tell and what proof I have. (Beckett articles etc) and was thinking he would fight it until the end (based on his lengthy story/lie) but he folded quickly.

Thanks to everyone who contacted him or ebay.

I got the same response from the seller. At least he didn't try to continue the lie.
