They have had a great season and will probably finish undefeated, but you have to realize what type of schedule and league they are playing in.

I wish we had a playoff because how great would it be for a team like this to have a chance to win it all! Wouldn't happen but would be fun to give them a chance. Florida might beat them by 75 or 80 points but would be fun.

    USC or TTech

Their toughest games are Indiana and Navy, LOL. I guess you have to play who's on your schedule, but there's no way they should ever climb past #15 in the rankings, unless they can beat a formidable opponent in a bowl game.

Man, I hope we can even get back in the picture. I guess there's a chance thanks to the Tech-OU game and the Big XII and SEC conference championships, but I'll say Florida.

I am a Ball State alum......

It's definatly fun to watch them play. And to think we lost one of the top college WR in Dante Love with a career ending spinal injury....

I would love a one year playoff and actually let Ball State and other puff cake frauds get their butts kicked by real teams, 77 to nothing and 85 to 3. That might
just put a stop to all the playoff talk.

  • Speaking about the playoff system, I saw a good point in this weeks Sporting News. It was talking about college basketball and how great March Madness is. Going into the tournament last year, Kansas was ranked #4 in the nation. If it was football, they would've been sitting at home watching 2 other teams play in the championship game.

To me, the top 4 in college football seem to all make good cases for being the best team in the nation. I wouldn't want something like a 16 team playoff system, but maybe a system where the winner of the Rose (1 vs. 4) and Orange (2 vs. 3) Bowls would meet up in the championship game. Just a thought.

JS first of all Ball State would not be in the playoff system unless it was opened up to 16 teams. Second do you remember Utah and Boise State just a few years ago beating established BCS powers? Anything can happen, people gush on and on about the Big 12 this year but what happens if their champ and runner up gets demolished in their BCS games? We would have to go back and degrade every win over the season for that conference. Similar things happened with the Big 10 not too long ago.

A playoff system is the only way to truly say who is the best. Only teams in the same conferences play similar teams and schedules so it is impossible to know really who is the best until they play each other head to head.

College football already has a playoff system. It begins in week 1, and ends in week 14.
If you expanded the 2 team National Championship Game to 4 teams, then you are still going to leave out some good teams.
If you expand it to 8 teams, then you are already watering it down. If you expand it to 16 teams, then you are
killing the regular season schedule and the intensity it brings.

Well then, 6 teams it is!!!

    Can't do 6. Can only do 4 or 8 or 16.

Again the regular season is crap right now due to fact most teams play only in their Conferences for like 70% of their schedule. How strong is the Big 12 really? Are they better than the PAC 10 or SEC? Who knows, they don't play enough games amongst themselves to know. That is why you have BCS championship games ending in routes more often then not. The eyeball test of seeing what teams might beat other teams by watching their games not them playing each other is ridicoulus.

The other solultion is to not award any National Champion and have teams play for conference and bowl trophys. At least those don't require poles, computers and eyeball tests to figure out.

It seems alot of fans still put tons of weight on Conference and Bowl victories, when really shouldn't it be about the championship? The BCS system is unfair and unbalanced.

All systems are unfair and unbalanced if you think of it.
Why should the Dodgers make the playoffs this year ? Why don't division winners in MLB get more of a playoff advantage then
    their wild card counterparts ?

Why does hockey allow practically everybody into the playoffs ? The regular season means squat. It's not fair that these teams that
win the division may have to run into a hot goalie from a weak team and lose in the first round.

Why does pro football play the super bowl in a nuetral site instead of rewarding the team that was the best during the regular
season ? Shouldn't their fans and owner enjoy a home game for all their hard work during the season ?

I'm just saying that arguments can be made that all playoff systems are unfair and unbalanced.

    That would work.
I actually think the BCS doesn't matter this year. If Alabama and Florida win out and play each other for the SEC championship, and
the Big 12 South winner destroys Missouri in the Big 12 Championship, then it will be a fair and balanced game.

keep in mind that if Oregon State wins out and USC wins out, then Oregon State will win the Pac-10, play in the Rose Bowl,
and if enough top ranked teams lose, then USC could play for the national championship without even winning their conference.
    Is that fair ?

That's why the playoff system at least eliminates poles and lets them decide on the field. I think if USC goes to a game before Oregon State then its' a travesty since they lost to them period.
