Paypal Question: No More Credit Card Payments??

I am trying to complete a purchase via paypal and I no longer have an option to choose my credit card on file to send payment. I am only getting an option for instant transfer and a disclaimer that if there are insufficient funds for the transfer that the credit card will be utilized as a backup source for payment. What is this all about?? Anyone know?

You might need to update expiration date on CC.

The card I have on file has an expiration date of 2009.

  • Do you have any money lingering in your paypal account (like a few bucks or so)? I've had it happen where I had $8.00 left in paypal that I got back as a refund and my new purchase forced me to use that and didn't give me an option to use my CC.

Look for the box that says either

    "additional funding source"

    or

    "other funding source."

    Yup.

PayPal saves more than 50% of the fee sellers pay, if PP can talk the
buyer into using ANY payment method other than a credit-card.

Most folks are unaware that you DO NOT need a PayPal account to
pay with a credit-card via the EBAY/PP platform.

You will need an EBAY buying account - not linked to a PP account. You can
use the platform for 10 payments; then, you will be "invited" to sign-up
for PP. (If you decline the "invitation," you can open another buying-account
    and start over.)

If you have a balance in the account, the option for the credit card does not appear. Happened to me the other day. Just pull it out and the credit card should come back up.

That seems to have been the case, as I used up the balance I had in my account for a couple of other purchases, and when I went back in for the larger purchase with zero in my PP account, I was able to select the credit card option.

This must be a new policy, as I've been able in the past to partially fund a payment with a Paypal balance and then put the balance of the purchase in my CC.

Thanks everyone, appreciate the responses! image

    Above quote from storm.

I thought so. I used a credit card to pay for a purchase this afternoon, after refusing to use my bank account, and after the transaction paypal admonished me:
"Next time fund your payment with a bank account"
They did everything short of calling me a stupid jerk.

Let's say - just for EZ-math - the fee that PayPal charged sellers was 2%.

If a buyer pays with an echeck or a PP balance, PP keeps all of the 2% fee.

If a buyer pays with a credit-card, PP must pay WFC about half of that 2% fee.

PP can save itself HUNDRED Of MILLIONS of DOLLARS a year, by pushing buyers
    to NOT use credit-cards.

    ...........

PayPal is nothing but a lessor of its merchant account, which account is issued
by WFC. Sellers "rent" the use of the account by paying a fee.

    ............

EBAY shares hit a new 5-year low, today. Dipped into the 12s; headed to $5.
