NICK SABAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm looking for a PSA 10 of any card of the greatest coach since Bear Bryant. By the way, we just beat LSU and I about had 4 heart attacks during the last 6 minutes. By the end of the game I was out of breath, sweating, and horse. I love college football!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Boy did Alabama get lucky, blocked field goal at the end. Using two timeouts only to use the second one to review the previous play.

I have to agree that he's a fine football coach. Too bad he's a piece of crap and I wouldn't trust him to clean my gutters.

Waiting for Bill to chime in on this one. If Bama would have lost that would have really messed with the BCS with Penn State going down too. I only have Les Miles cards, sry.

Well said. The guy is a serious dirtbag. Miami is now just starting to recover from his tenure there.

LSU fans "please get over it." He brought you from the SEC dumpster, to TWO Nat'l Championships.

lol LSU fans have no reason to fret over losing Saban, they got Miles out of the deal...Dolphins fans however...well, you know. Good for Alabama though, I'd like to see an SEC team win it all...as long as it's not Georgia.

So what exactly did Nick Saban do that makes him a piece of crap? It's really easy to criticize from arms length, but let's follow this along and tell me you would never consider doing what he did:

He obviously regretted and did make a poor decision to coach in the NFL and was a very bad pro coach. Not the worst ever, to me Spurrier's try with the Redskins was worse but there's alot of bad pro coaches throughout NFL history.

He knew he made a bad decision and collegiate coaching was what he is best at and loves, and Alabama was relentless in courting him.

He didn't have a signed contract when he was approached multiple times by Alabama, and when confronted about it, yes, he lied about the possibility of taking the job or showing any interest. What would you do? Is it so ludicrous that you have no assurance you will get the Alabama job until it is a signed deal, and want to make sure you don't lose your current job prior to making sure it is a done deal?

Those that put in that position, who wouldn't deny a potential job change to their current employer before having an absolute done deal with a new employer, let's hear it. Oh yeah, and also consider again you are not performing well at your new position and are being offered a job at one of the most prestigious college football universities in the best football conference in the country.

Oh yeah, and they are gonna pay you $32 million for doing the job you are best at and love the most.
  • Saban is clearly a coach who will recuit everybody and then kick guys to the curb that he doesn't like. He must have full control. He's like working for a boss that micromanages every move that you make. It may work in a short period of time, but eventually it turns into rebellion and the team falls apart due to recruiting violations or poor decisions due to players that are unwilling to deal with the phony dishonest act. Long term success is dictated by coaches that can manage and coach players in times of need and step back and enjoy during all other times. Although coaches like Bob Knight and Bear Bryant were very successful, they have been completely outshined by John Wooden and Joe Torre who coached/managed in a truely classy manner.

So being in control of your football team and the decisions made regarding said team is a horrible thing? Also, please give some specific examples of Saban kicking guys to the curb that haven't been outplayed by other players or who absolutely deserved to be playing over another player but were not given the opportunity.

And also, what was it that Bear Bryant did to make him of less class than Torre or Wooden?

drew, you're a good guy and I've had numerous great deals with you in the past, but the only people that seem to have any respect for Saban are Tide fans. You can do what you need to do to rationalize backing him as your coach, but don't think for a second that he wouldn't bolt at the end of the year for more money and the Notre Dame/Michigan/Florida/Miami/Florida State job if it was offered to him, regardless of whatever promises or commitments he made to your program. Again, the guy's a great coach but when one repeatedly lies and leaves former teams high and dry you can only come to one conclusion about their character. If you weren't a Tide fan we wouldn't even be having this discussion. Personally, I would rather root for Duke men's basketball then have this schmuck coach any of my Terrapins teams.

I know one thing, I've never missed the guy since he left Michigan State many years ago.

No hard feelings at all Lee, your cool with me as well. Maybe I am in the minority here, but given the circumstances as I see it and put a couple of responses before this one, everyone is basically acting like the guy has wronged the world by changing jobs when he sees a better opportunity. Like I said, does everyone here actually think if they were in that position, had someone contacting you about a possible move back to a job you are better at and pay you crazy money, and immediately the media is in your face asking if you are leaving, having no actual commitment other than lots of nice words and promises to go on, you would immediately say yes, I'm thinking of leaving although it could lead to you being an immediate distraction and potential firing. It obviously was handled poorly on his end, which if most people would actually read on the subject, he has admitted time and time again when the subject is brought up.

Sure I would be disappointed if he left, but he has brought life back to an Alabama program that has had more than it's fair share of problems for over a decade. If it does happen, and he lied until he secured what he considers a better job, sure holding a grudge is natural, but going as far as calling him a pos and much worse things that alot of people like to throw out there, that's just a bit too much for me.
  • Congratulations to Alabama and Nick Saban. LSU played like a Jr High School team and lost in OT. I personally wish we still had Satan. We would be undefeated and 4 time defending champs. I personally will pull for Bama and Florida from now on since I am not only an LSU fan, but a fan on the SEC (the most powerful conference in the nation). Good luck to Satan and Tebow the rest of the season.
  • drewsefdrewsef Posts: 1,894 ✭✭
LSU is a good QB away from being dominant in the SEC like they have been for this entire decade, outside of the turnovers by poor QB play, I don't understand this they played a horrible game talk. They are a good football team that is going to be a nightmare again next year once Hatch has more time under his belt and is back healthy.
  • Drew and ALABAMA FANS,

I have respect for all of your opinions and don't want to cause any hard feelings.

I think that Saban could end up causing more harm to the Alabama football program and the University of Alabama that help. I think that the University of Alabama is an excellent University and has an outstanding history as a great college football program.

Although Nick Saban has produced outstanding college football winners, he has done it without operating in an ethical manner. His departure from LSU was a surprise and not done in the classiest manner, but his departure from the Miami Dolphins was shameful. I am a Patriots fan and I felt that he left that team without any regard to his players, fans, friends, or coaching staff.

He will end up doin the same to the University of Alabama. He will commit a recruiting violation or recruit players that are unfit for a college program. He operates in the best interest of Nick Saban. He doesn't operate in the best interest of his players or the University of Alabama. I am shocked that fans and alumnists are proud that coaches like Nick Saban and Rick Neuheisel are encouraged to coach outstanding programs like UA or UCLA. These schools and programs thrive on class and ethics. These coaches don't operate on class and ethics. Their pasts clearly show this.

It's amazing that I don't know the coach from Oklahoma State's Name because he reminded all fans and alumnists that college football players are still "kids" last year. He acted like an adult and did the right thing despite the fact that he had to bench the player that was being criticized. Coaches like Nick Saban would be trying to find a way to cut this players scholarship to bring in another player for the next season.

Texas Tech, UT or Oklahoma could all kill Alabama. I think Florida will beat them in the SEC title game anyway.

incugator, no hard feelings, this is just a talk, so please do post any of these actual examples you have of him with recruiting violations, or playing players that deserve to but aren't getting that chance other than just being outplayed by someone else. There's alot of I hate Saban and lots of excuses thrown around, but no one will answer the question if they were in that position before securing a contract for $32 million to go back to a job they are better suited at whether they would lie to their current employer until it was a done deal.

Come on guys, it's not a tough question for anyone else either, you know what you would do.

The claim of two people who worked around him and quit, well, we all know that is he said she said. I know a young graduate student who has and continues to work with Saban at nearly every public and/or media event since he landed in Tuscaloosa and she has told me he is great to work for.

And those who just like to pile on and say Saban sucks and he has no ethics, I say prove it. If there is a time when Alabama receives any violations or sanctions because of Saban's actions, then I say right on because no matter how many wins or losses Alabama football has, keeping a clean program is more important than that.

i am glad bama won, being true SEC fan,
i am always looking for better ranked team to win, i don't
care if it's friggin Kentucky or my god-awful school Ms State for crying out loud!!!

Bama has to still beat Florida in SEC championship,
so this LSU victory may be premature ejaculation for many bama fans if the lose to florida.

Bama already has more wins than I expected this year, and while what is possible would be great, unless we lose out, this season is already great for Tide fans.

SEC football is absolutely the best thing going in college athletics.

Being a huge Bama fan and a huge SEC fan, I must say that Bama has clinched a birth in the national championship game. We will be playing the Florida Gators in the national championship game in Atlanta. No, we or Florida will not be given the award after the game. It will be like the 1980 Winter Olympics hockey game between the USA and USSR. Sure it wasn't the gold medal game, but in all reality it was for the gold medal. Texas Tech or what ever division II teams wins that conference will get to play a token game against the winner of Bama (USA) and Florida (USSR) just for formality sake.

I'm not saying that florida is a bunch of communists, but it is a common rumor that U. Mayer has a tramp stamp of a cickel and hammer on his lower back. I'm just saying.

Was there any cards produced of Nick 'I'm tall cool drink of water' Saban while he was at Miami? Wow this mancrush thing is almost as bad as my MurphCrush, good thing I'm married, or people would be starting to ask questions.

Oh yeah, to all of you Haters who say bad things about the great Bear Bryant, may a plague of three thousand cats urinate on your front yard for a period of four full moons! That will teach you guys not to take his name in vain!

P.S. Roll Tide Roll and put Dale Murphy in the HOF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this is the single most delusional statement ever posted on this board.

It is so completely obvious that the Big 12 is MUCH better than the SEC. Like I said in a previous post, Tech, UT, Oklahoma, and probably even OSU would wipe the field with Alabama.
  • julen23julen23 Posts: 4,558 ✭✭
    kinda agree w/ billwaltonsgratefuldeadacid there.

sec is not the #1 conference in football right now, as lsu & bama both have suspect field generals. their defenses are however, w/o much parallel, even
    compared to big 10 schools.

best defense in nation is usc right now & best offense is somewhere buried in mega-powerful big 10.

but i still hope bama manages to win a nat't title, as the fandango threads about pujols are a distant memory.

  • << <i>It is so completely obvious that the Big 12 is MUCH better than the SEC. >>

Boy this statement is going to hurt me. I hate that I have to partially agree. With the exception of Alabama and Florida, the SEC sucks this year compared to the past 20+ years. The Big 12 top to bottom is probably a little better than the SEC this year but by no means MUCH better.
  • College coaches do a great job of covering up many rules violations and most rules violations are very minor and are abused by 95% of coaches. Many of these players do not get the neccessary budget for enough tutors for the amount of class time missed. High level programs find a way around this by operating in the best interest of the student athlete. It is hard to fault them for this.

A problem occurs when coaches require players to practice through class time and recruit 2 freshman at the same position while promising them starting positions (which actually isn't a violation) Nick Saban has been known (not just Saban) for recruiting players as freshman and not renewing their scholarships after their first year due to their inability to be an impact player in the program. This leaves a student athlete without any finacial aid to complete his college education. He has also been linked to improper booster contacts with recruits back in 2007. Although this is a minor thing, it hassles recruits and shows that Saban isn't afraid to do things the wrong way.

His departure from the Miami Dolphins could've been done in a more professional manner. Actually, it couldn't have been done in a less professional manner. I don't think anybody can disagree with that.

I hope that Sir Nick gets about four more counts of animal abuse added to his record

    Bulldog abuse versus Miss ST

    Tiger abuse versus Tommy Loserville

Gator abuse versus the evil USSR

and ?????? abuse in the Formality Bowl

His one count of Bulldog abuse has already been lodged for our beat down of Georiga
