I am moving into a new house and i found refund checks from both of these people/stores....one for 10 bucks, the other for 6...does anyone have their contact information. Before I cash them I want to make sure its ok....one refund was from 2004, the other from 2005!!

I would imagine since those are "stale" checks the banks might reject them. I would check with your bank as well as the makers!!

I hate it when that happens. When my wife and I moved near the end of 2007, we found a $300 check that we got as a wedding present in 2006 and forgot to cash... however the person who wrote the check had passed away earlier in the year.

The bank will only reject them if the teller catches them. Especially with those small amounts. But if the account owner catches the dates on them I would imagine he could have them returned.

The problem is those checks may be on accounts that are no longer active.

If it was me I'd just let it go. Now if it was some serious cash, say 20.00

I'd ask the person for a replacement check.

Under no circumstances would I try to cash checks that are that old.

I tried to cash an expired check once and the returned check fees were more than the check amount. Not worth the risk. Let it go.

Goudey is right, the fees for a returned item would be more than the checks are worth.

On the other hand, "stale date" is very misunderstood. The bank is under no obligation to return a check for stale date, but it is also under no obligation to pay it. And the bank only has 24 hours to return the check once it pays, so the account owner has no recourse after that. Small dollar checks are not sight verified when paid so likely it would not be noticed that it's stale dated.

AWESOME!! I emailed him this morning. Still no word from Jeremy at TFCS. Does he still buy and sell cards?? I have not seen him on here in quite a while..also does he have a website?? its alot of work for such small change but what the heck it will buy a tank of gas!!

Hey this is Jeremy @TFCS. Yes yes still in business - this seems like a great time to post a link.

If I am the one that has the $6 check then it's OK, but if it's the $10 check then it's no good.

But really, if it's drawn off of People's First bank then please go ahead and cash if the bank will let you.
And if it's not or they don't let you let me know and Ill find another way to pay up!
