Thanksgiving Coin Swap thread. Line-up posted. Happy Thanksgiving

Hi everyone,

I've noted that there have been times when we have had HUGE turnouts for some swaps.
I've ALSO noted huge declines in interest in ensuing swaps. Apparently there are issues that I
am totally unaware of (above & beyond the dialogue I have had with several members that
have taken the time to express "issues" they have been made to deal with regarding any ONE,
in particular.)

If there are issues and or problems transpiring that are CAUSING dis-interest in swaps,
I NEED to be made aware of them as otherwise I can do NOTHING to help fix or address this!

Best to all,

    Boom,

    Not sure how to reply.
Though you've probably gotten quite a few PM's I thought I'd go public.
First I'd like to publicly thank you for the couple of times you have helped me out with swaps concerning other members.

I know there are members here that are givers, willingly giving more than they receive.
But this is their choice, and I hope they get great satisfaction for doing so.

But I also believe that many enter the swaps hoping to recieve coins that will help their registry sets....I do.
It rarely happens for me any more as most of the coins I need are a bit pricier than when I first started swapping.
But I do start out by asking my partner what they're interested in & try to help out if I can.

Although I know communications are important, I also understand that we all have lives outside of coin collecting, and it's sometimes hard to understand why someone can't take 15 minutes to log on & update parnters on 'how things are gong'.

As mistakes are made in swaps, and rules added to prevent it from happening it again, I find so many rules stiffling.
Should a coin worth $25 to $50 have to be sent via Priority with insurance & delivery confirmation?

IMO, if you require swapper to provide you with so many personal info, that should be enough to let everyone deal with one another.
Only if there is a 'dispute' that cannot be resolved between the 2 parties should you get involved.

And disputes SHOULD NOT be made public.....EVER!
If one or both of the parties do air their laundry they should be banned from further swaps.
Jeez, possibly ruin a members rep. over a swap!
Makes me think twice about joining swaps.

Yes, there are times when the swap is worth hundreds, if not thousands of dollars, but when this is done there had better be total trust in the member you are swapping with, and them with you.
Realize that they have lives & sometimes PMs are not returned right away.

Next 'issue' is how to place value on coins.
Graded is a bit easier than raw, IMO.
With graded the two parties can use auction house 'sold' values for the TPG used.
Raw coins have to be accurately graded and possibly agree on how to value them.
This is if how to place values on coins are discussed at all.

Personally I would like to see members sign up & state a swap dollar amount, what they are looking for & what they have, then try to match partners 'best you can'.

Aija, thank you for taking the time and the effort put forth by you,
to publicly write your truest sentiments here, for all to see!

You and they are appreciated very much and as I read and re-read your work,
I must say that I am in total agreement with everything you have written here.

I have a re-kindled Respect for you - for doing so
& as such, would swap with you anytime & for any amount!

Personally speaking - I have much to be very thankful for this year!
Including the many friendships made here, revolving (of all things)

Ted2126. Hi. First of all - engage your PM function!

This way I can tell you what you need to know privately.

If for some reason you do not turn it on you need to do as everyone else that has every particiapted has done.

I need from you a PM that includes:

    Your real Name
    Your home address
Home phone/ work phone/ cell phone
Your email address (all of which must be verifiable)

Ebay ID (if you have one)
    Area of interest numismatically

    This will do for starters.

Like everyone else, your info is kept in a folder (a physical folder)
for my use to contact you - to make sure you are who you state you are
& to assist me in pairing you up with collectors of similar interests & means.

This will get you on your way. image

    Boom,

I think this thread needs more than a breath, it needs CPR and maybe a defibrillator too.

  • Hi Boom,

I haven't been around much lately, and I just sent a list of all my best swapables to Ajia's V Tag.

If anyone has had any problem with my swaps, they haven't told me privately. And I don't look things up first, so I think I go a little overboard sometimes.

Sorry I didn't signup for this one, and now my coins are tied up.
But it's time to start getting ready for X mas anyway. I don't know if anyone is planing on doing grabbags like last year or not. I want to have something to add to the pot.

Excellent! Now THAT's the way it's supposed to be done.

Ted, in future swaps you should post just as Musky has, right here.
