The 78's were brutal, no need to scan. Bench, Rose, and Ryan / Niekro Stikeout Leaders were the cream of the crop of the first 5 packs and they are OC. The 77 OPC Ryan has 2 rough-cut edges, one corner slightly touched. Looks like a Strong 7 or Lucky 8.
  • I learned from my subs of 77 OPCs last month that PSA does not seem to care about the rough cut edges.

I'm building a pile of to submit stuff, once the snow flies up here I'll put it together. What's the minimum for a bulk sub?
  • LMK when you get ready to do a bulk sub. Have a handful I want to sub but not enough to bother sending on my own.

Received packs. Pulled nothing worth scanning. The 75 minis were centered fairly well with no miscuts.

Received my packs today, 1 75 mini and 4 84 Donruss.
Ripped them here at parent-teacher conferences.
Nothing earthshattering, a couple of nice 75s and six well-centered 84s, but no low pops.
I will post scans when I get home.

I received my packs today. 3 1978 Baseball, 3 1978 Football, and 3 1983 Football. I decided to keep one of each unopened and ripped the remaining two of each. Nothing too exciting and nothing screaming to be submitted, but we need some more scans, so here are the highlights:

  • Busted 3 of the 6 mini packs and have a few super gems in here. I'll bust the rest of the mini's and 86 FB tomorrow. The 3 packs of 78 BB had nothing earth shaking

  • Sorry guys, scanner/printer is not talking to my laptop. It will probably be tomorrow before I get it resolved.
Here's what you can look forward to once I get it fixed.

    75 minis:
    Dave McNally
    Pat Kelly
    Rich Coggins
    RBI Leaders-Burroughs/Bench

    84 Donruss:
    Pete Rose
    Steve Carlton
    Mike Heath
    Benny Ayala
    Roy Smalley
    Ron Darling (no number version)
    Eddie Murray DK
    Wade Boggs DK
    Dave Righetti DK

  • Haven't seen any of the 84 Donruss posted yet. How is the centering?
  • Nothing special in my packs 2 packs of mini's, 3 packs of 86 football, and 2 packs of donruss...

I did pull nice Ryan and Ozzie Smith from the 84 donruss - probably could pull a 9 - centering is close to or better than 60/40

The 75's look pretty good. The centering is nice and the corners don't look to bad. Is the mini set the complete 75 set or does it have less cards?
  • jeffcbayjeffcbay Posts: 8,951 ✭✭✭✭
It's all 660 cards, same as the 1975 Topps Not-So-Mini.

I am going to do a local pickup from Steve on Friday. I am pretty excited to start ripping. Whatother cheap boxes should I pick up from him while I am there. I am looking to spend $50 or less per box. Last time I was there I got a box of 87 topps football and a box of 89 fleer baseball. I am looking for something that has some nice rookies and cards that I could have a shot at sending in for subing. Can anyone recomend anything that falls into that criteria?
  • Got mine today. Below are the scans of the good cards.

Got my (3) Mini packs today! No real stars to speak of. One pack was REALLY bad centering top to bottom along with some factory damage on both side edges of the cards. The other two had decent centering and edges. I'll post scans of the good ones when I get home from work. I should have a decent hand full to sub. Fun rip!

I got in late, so only picked up 2 packs of 78 Topps baseball. Opened them today and best card was a Cecil Cooper. Most were oc and a couple had some dings to the sides. One pack had 13 cards and the other one had 14. The one that had 14 was only about half sealed, but didn't look like anything amiss to me. How many cards are the 78 packs supposed to have anyway... just curious??

Fun set, but out of my league. I can see why people can get hooked to these!

Here are a few of my better cards. Alot of Steelers in the 83's, but they were mostly OC. The Dorsett was by far the nicest card and the Bears team card seams to be a low pop. Elway and Montana were back to back in the pack. Split my order with a friend and have not received his results from him yet.

That Dorsett has a good shot at a 10.

There are some really nice mini's in these scans.

Still waiting for my packs, hopefully tomorrow.

My packs were shipped Monday, still not here. Not all bad, my PSA 10 Bird/Magic RC that waiting to be pulled is going up in value as we speak.

Got mine today....the 1975 mini pack has Mike Schmidt on the bottom, which is nice because I am keeping it for my pack collection. I'll rip some of the other packs later, if I can hold off that long.
  • jswietonjswieton Posts: 2,870 ✭✭✭
Where are everybodys scans? Steve told me today he shipped out everyones package on Monday? I will begin ripping later tonight. I also picked up a box of 88 Topps FB Celo. On the back of one of the packs is a Vinny Testiverde RC. I also picked up a box of 91 Fleer Ultra FB. As soon as my wife goes to bed I will start ripping!

Okay, I just bought 2 of the '75 Minis and 3 of the '83 FB Cellos. The '83s were all badly o/c but it was a fun rip nonetheless. The Minis, on the other hand, were surprisingly centered, sharp, and vibrant compared to my past experiences with them. No real star cards in either pack though.

So what are the cards to look for other then the Don Matingly rc out of the 84 Donruss? Is anything that has a chance to get a PSA 10 worth grading out of the 84?

I just finished opening all my packs and all I can say is on my last pack I opened, I hit the mother load. I usualy don't have very good luck when it comes to riping packs and I finally pulled a card I was really hopeing to get. It is to late to start scanning everything, so I will leave everyone hanging image I was kind of disapointed with the rip until the very last pack I opened. The funny thing is the only reason I opened it and didn't put the pack in my collection was because I was moaning about others not scanning their cards. I will give you a clue of what I got in that single pack. I pulled 4 huge HOFer's and one of them happens to be a RC out of the one pack. If you can guess the pack and the 5 players I am speaking about I will give you the pack. You only get one guess and I will only except the first 10 guesses. This should be interesting what people will come up with

  • The pack was 75 Topps minis. The rookie was Jim Rice. The four HOFers are Hank Aaron. Steve Carlton, Rollie Fingers, and Reggie Jackson.

With 27 HOFers and 11 rookie cards there are almost 200,000 different combinations posters could guess. Pretty safe to say you will keep the pack.

Here are my scans. I didn't get anything from the 78 FB and I got an OC Ryne Sandberg from the 84 Donruss. I have never seen so many Bernie Kosars from one box.
    image
I pulled all the 75's from one pack. The other pack didn't have anything to get excited about.

The bottom right corner of the Brett apears to be soft in the scan. There also apears to be a white dot on the botom right from the scan. It does not look like that way in person.
  • Beck6Beck6 Posts: 1,038 ✭✭✭
Wow nice pull on the Brett. That Marino looks pretty good too. Anyone pulled a Rice or Young out of the football yet. The centering seems to be pretty good on the 86 box.

Did anyone get anything out of the 78 FB yet to speak of? Also, did anyone else have gum in theirs? I found it odd that mine had no gum and had wrinkles on virtually every card in the pack.

    WOW, nice '75s!!

  • << <i>Also, did anyone else have gum in theirs? >>

Didn't get any 78's but did have an 86 football pack with half a piece of gum in it.

All three packs I purchased had gum in them. I opened two of the packs. In one, the surface of the cards was essentially flawless. In the other however, most of the cards had slight surface wrinkles on the surface. I would guess that they are moisture/humidity induced, though the cards did not stick together at all.
