2008 AL Gold Glove winners

1B Carlos Pena, Rays
2B Dustin Pedroia, Red Sox

Didn't Pena make 8 errors at first base this year? That's Gold Glove worthy? Hmmm...

I understand why Youk was not named: with injuries to Lowell and others, he had to play third base way too much this year. I don't know the splits, but it seemed to me that he was at 1B for about 70% of the games. Otherwise, yeah, he'd be the guy again.

    Nope. 125 games at 1st, 36 at 3rd and 2 in RF.

BTW: Pena made 2 errors this year, not the 8 like someone mentioned before. 8 was his total last season.

OOPS I misread! I was an idiot and thought you originally said 3B instead of 1B. Nevermind then, GOOD CALL!

Also he played 3b more towards the end of the season, I think, and that is what people remember?

Suzuki was not even the third best right fielder in the A.L.

I'm happy for Dustin Pedroia. That's cool. But this award, out of all the awards given, is a complete farce.

Are you referring to GGs in general, or Pedroia in particular? Neyer had him as the best defensive 2nd baseman in the league, James had him as 2nd best behind Ellis.

I'm referring to the Gold Glove award in general. I think the winners are almost always good defensively, but I think that most of the winners win based on reputation rather than merit. Like the years and years of Palmeiro winning the award while spending a good chunk of his time as a DH.

I actually thought Dustin Pedroia deserved the award this year - I didn't mean to imply otherwise.

Ellis is better, but I think he didn't play enough at 2B...maybe 120 games? Dunno

That sucks! image NOBODY was better than Youkilis at first, and I saw enough of Pena to be quite comfortable in saying that.
