It is getting to be that time of the month again. (BBCE Group Break Time!!)

This will probably not go down for the next couple weeks. Normaly I would say lets put it off untill december. I have a feeling if we do that guys may be short on cash because of the holidays. So I figured there is no better time then now. What Kind of packs would you guys be interesting in ripping this time arourd. Everyone who is interested just make a list of 1.,2.,3. and list your top 3 choices what you would like to break,

Here are my top three:

1. 78 Topps baseball
2. 81 Topss football
3, 76 Topps football or 87 fleer basketball

I'm waiting on an order that was shipped last Wed. (usually only take 2 days). I'd do a few 78 baseball.

I'm gonna sit this one out, I have a stack of cards that I need to sub from the past rips. I'll still watch it, and most likely buy some due to lack of self control.
  • Funny, right now I can not afford to buy a box of 88 Donruss but the beer monster almost made me post a BBCE group break thread last night.

  • my top 3 choices

    1978 baseball
    1978 baseball
    1978 baseball
  • 78 baseball is getting old. I think we have done 6 breaks this year with 78 baseball, 7 if you count the baseball pack run break.

1976-1979 Topps Baseball for me, please.
Looking to trade for, or purchase, raw or graded vintage for my baseball sets: 1927 York Caramel, 1951 Bowman, 1957 Topps, 1967-1979.

  • Good Day,
Unless you can find something that hasn't been done for quite awhile I'll sit this one out for the second time around as well.
84 Football is overdone and not really worth it, the centering is just too terrible in the cases that Steve has and all for one or two actual money cards.
78 Baseball as LSU said is way overdone...Nuff said
81 Footbal is the same story as the 84 Football...The centering is so bad that it is just not worth it...I get lots of this product from several sources and its all Way OC for the most part. Just not worth it.
87 Fleer is overdone as well and Steve's cases tend to lean towards the OC stuff as well. I found some premo packs recently, popped for 46, opened, awesome centering, sub'd, lots of 9's and 10's and other than two exceptions can't give them away. So why bother.

As I said, we need to find something unique and new or semi-new to breath some life into these breaks, if thsis same stuff keeps coming up, the breaks are going to get smaller and smaller participation.
I for one after years of participating have started to back off.

    Just my 2 Cents

I'd be interested in the the OPC hockey also. I'd like to complete my set so would take as many as possible.

  • OK, here I go one more time.

Hockey never ells out. 1978-82 baseball has gotten old and boring. 1981 and 1984 Football is also getting boring not to mention that, with the exception of two PSA 9 Elway rookies, no one has pulled anything significant from any of the last 200 times we did these years. 87-88 basketball stillintrigue me because of some good grades I received from last sub.

I agree with Neil. We need to do something different. I imagine the repetitive breaks are part of the reason we had such a hard time selling out the last 2 times. I would personally rather buy some more 89 Fleer over the packs mentioned in first post.
  • I could do some football (Late 70's), or if Steve has any more 77T OPC baseball....

So did you have something in mind for those of us that will be ripping?
  • I didn't necessarily say I was not participating. I happen to have some money in my Paypal account that my wife does not know about it if Paypal ever removes the freeze on my account.

I am interested in what you might be considering for a rip.
  • I always enjoy the late 70's basketball....

  • If we wanted to do something more exciting but a little pricier, Steve has a 1975 Topps mini baseball cello box that would cost about $90/pack or a mini wax box at about $38/pack.

How about a 77 Topps baseball vending box. 20 card lots from a random selection of card #'s for about $20 a lot?
  • I'm definitly in for mini rip.
  • jswietonjswieton Posts: 2,870 ✭✭✭
I like the idea of the mini rip too.
  • thumbs up for the following:

    1978 Topps Basketball - $9 - No real rookies but nice HOF'ers

I am in for the next group. What about '86 football? Lots of stars and maybe someone would pull a nice Young or Rice. Does not look very expensive.

    T222's PSA 1 or better

I like the idea of some older stuff. I think it would be more exciting to open one pack of older stuff than several of newer stuff

I love the 1975 Mini Idea

How about a 1975 Topps Wax Break

One pack each of 1975 Topps Mini Baseball, 1975 Football, and 75/76 Basketball

With the prices from BBCE, if we get a 10% discount, it would come to $111.25 for 36 lots. Although we need someone with some dough to buy a couple lots, which wont be me. Will hock the wife for the one.

    Possible RC's include

George Brett, Robin Yount, Gary Carter, Jim Rice

Mel Blount, Drew Pearson, Lynn Swann, Joe Theismann

    Moses Malone

Not to mention the numerous HOF possibilities
IT IS ALWAYS CHEAPER TO NOT SELL ON EBAY
  • late 70's football would interest me. I like the mini idea as well.
Looking for Cello packs with Bill Buckner on top

  • << <i>How about a 1975 Topps Wax Break >>

I had the same thought but the football and basketball have little to offer especially for the price of the football.

I missed it a couple breaks ago and not sure if Steve has any, but weren't there some decent pulls on 78 opc baseball??
I'd be interested in the 75 Topps baseball.. the basketball and football don't do much for me.

  • << <i>I missed it a couple breaks ago and not sure if Steve has any, but weren't there some decent pulls on 78 opc baseball?? >>

Actually it was 77, but yes, they were in great condition and really well centered compared to most 77 OPCs.

I've been itching to participate in one of these and would probably be game for 75 minis or 77 OPC.
Currently working on: Kurt Warner PSA 9 or 10

  • fattymacsfattymacs Posts: 2,581 ✭✭✭
I just ripped 5 packs of 77 OPC baseball and only about 25% had decent centering and 1 card per pack had damage. Steve emailed me a week or 2 ago that he didn't presently have any boxes of 77 OPC, but you could always ask again.
  • Its time to give the minis some love again i would take a few 75 mini cellos or wax but would prefer the cellos

i got in on the 75 mini's and the case was all off center. i watched pack after pack get opened AND I OPENED MINE ANYWAY! It was great fun and i still have the O/C cards sitting in holders. I look at them everyone in a while to see if i should get any of them graded but alas the answer is always the same.
    lets do it again!

So far this is what I have come up with. I wanted to rip something that isn't as common as the more recent group rips. This is just a list, so, please let me know which packs may interest you and I will go with the group vote.

These prices all include our 10% off because of our good looks image

    Football:

    1975 : 37.50 per pack
1976: (Walter Payton rc) 76.87 per pack
    1977 Cello : 21.25 per pack
    1978: $10 per pack
    1979: $9.50 per pack
    1980: $2.75 per pack
    1981: cello 19.69 per pack
    1983 cello $3.00 per pack
    1986: $10.50 per pack
    1985: wax $3.38 per pack

    Baseball

1975 wax mini: $36.25 per pack
    1978: $14.38 per pack
    1984 Donruss $4.87 per pack

    Basketball

    1977/78 : $11.88 per pack
    1978/79: $8.12 per pack
    1979/80: $6.25 per pack

  • So we're excluding hockey I see?

Oh right, hockey never sells out.
  • its because hockey is NOT a sport. image

  • << <i>its because hockey is NOT a sport. image >>

Is that because Hockey players aren't just a bunch of steriod freaks. image
  • My vote:

    1986 Football: $10.50 per pack
1975 wax mini: $36.25 per pack
    1978/79: $8.12 per pack
  • How about adding a box or two of 1984 Donruss baseball? About the same price as the 81 Donruss golf we always throw in and they usually sell out first because of the price.
