Huge battered hunk of bronze... what is it?

Got this at the local coin show on Sunday. It was absolutely *COVERED* in green sh*t. It took me 2.5 hours just to get it to this point and there's still some left.

The thing is massive. 3 inches in diameter and 165 grams. VERY high relief on the obverse.

No clue what it's worth, given the damage, but it's still an interesting hunk o' metal...

No idea, CP, but the building is on fire...

I would generally guesstimate a generic 3" Napoleon III bronze medal (without the stuff still on the reverse) in the $40-$60 range.

Napoleon III had a number of medals and I wouldn't consider him highly collectable. I also don't recognize the artists name (L. Merlev) so there probably is not a built in demand for his work as there is for some others.

I also does not apparently fall into a collecting theme, as an architectural themed medal it would be barely interesting.

I would add that the obverse is looking quite nice, other then the nose needing attention as well as the rim spot over the M

    No clue what it's worth...

Let's hope it's worth 2.5 hours of your time and, I hate to say, some liver damage from your extended exposure to acetone.
