1833 Capped Bust Half -- Unknown Attribution

Won this last evening on ebay and to be quite honest it matches no known attributions. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

    not a fake from China?

On CoinZip, the responding members of the BHNC (myself included) all think differently and have varying opinions about her, LOL... If it's a counterfeit it's SOMETHING that's for sure. Weight will be one telling aspect and can't check that until it arrives.

  • The feedback I'm receiving is that it's a counterfeit and a (NEW - unknown) one at that. Definitely something to be on the lookout for...

  • You're right. The quality is amazing though when compared to the known counterfeits.

  • Yea, something's "off" about that coin. I can't quite place my finger on it though.
  • A serious worry to consider -- wonder what it would grade (TPG) wise. From what I've gathered (off list) she has a great possibility to weigh at or about the proper weight of 13.48 grams. For where there is one of these there is bound to be more...

  • Because of the design differences I think that any TPG should see that there is something that is not right.

I would hope so, but we've both seen and heard of ridiculously misattributed Bust Half Dollars by big name TPGs before...

Hopefully, in hand you will be able to determine authenticity aside from fact that she does not fit a known variety. Imagine if it did look like a known variety!! image

Now you need to decide whether or not to return this modern Chinese counterfeit, or submit it to NGC for grading --- without variety verification.
I collect Capped Bust series by variety in PCGS AU/MS grades.

In what way? Do collectors no longer collect coins? Chinese fakes may lower the price you can get for your coins. While that may be a bad thing for the MARKET it is a good thing for the HOBBY.
Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't love to look at a pretty bust.

Or PCGS, or ANACS, or IGC, etc. All of them have made mistakes in the past; all of them will make more in the future.

Looks like they got the EPU wrong on the reverse as well as
    that man-face thing going on.

I believe that it is a counterfeit. My first idea when I looked at the picture without reading the comments was that it was not genuine.
