Is Belichick losing his mojo?

First, that debacle of a coaching performance in the Super Bowl vs. the Giants (going for it on on 4th and 9 from the Giants 32, not going to the no-huddle sooner, leaving Hobbs on an island with Plaxico on the game winner, I could go on and on).

I can't even describe last night's performance. Going for 2 up 5 in the middle of the 3rd quarter? Calling your last time out to send your kicker on the field for a FG, when your offensive line was DOMINATING the Colts D line? Using a challenge to gain 5 yards to avoid a 2nd and 10?

I know I'm missing another brain fart from earlier this year too.

Please nobody bring up Spygate because these are bad DECISIONS, and have nothing to do with offensive gameplanning.

I seem to remember Belichick panicking before in tight situations. Calling for onside kicks in the third quarter and such. You can't dink and dunk the whole game. They should have tried more down the field throws in the 2nd half but he has no confidence in Cassle. The Colts moved the ball with ease at times on their defense as well so it isn't just one side having issues. Cassle isn't that bad of a QB but he hasn't been given all of the playbook either. It would be interesting to see them in a game where they let him wing it some.

Actually the answer is "No" - I think Belichick is still the best head coach in pro football. He just doesn't have the horses this season - even the best trainer can't win with tired horses, and Belichick wore out his players last season, and is paying for it this season with injuries, etc. At 5 -3 I think he's still done a very good job, and perhaps the Patriots might not make the playoffs this season and definitely won't reach the Super Bowl, but next season and with Brady back they'll be tough again as usual.

As a Pats fan, I have to disagree about next season. They have some OLD players on that D. They'll seriously need to retool if they want to contend with that D again. Bruschi is washed up, Harrison is probably done. No way they're contending starting Ellis Hobbs and James Sanders.

They would be 6-2 if it were not for that doofus Tight End's personal foul. image

I'll bet Cassel crossed him off his Christmas Card list.

Yea Thomas? or whoever that TE was should be cut immediately! Bottom line like SteveK said Bill is without Brady and the running back situation is made up of a 3rd down specialist in Faulk and a 4th string rookie- defense is banged up as well yet we still are playing competitive football. No excuses as all teams get banged up but the amount of injuries on trhe Pats is clearly the reason why we are not the same team this year- no suprise here.

Its easy to win when you have Brady, Moss and Welker, but not so easy when you have other players who aren't stars. Makes Gruden SB run even more
impressive, there wasn't a superstar on the offense! I think this season will tell more about Belicheat more than any other, even with how sucky the
    AFC East is.

I get such a kick out of dillusional fellows who actually believe that coaches like Chucky Gruden and Sucs teams should be mentioned in the same sentence as Belichek and the Patriots, its sad but somewhat comical at the same time.

You are right, our defense was dominant and the Patsies D wasn't. We also coasted through the playoffs and super bowl and you needed last second FG's
and tuck rules to win you games. I will be more careful with my posts Perk! Thanks

Let's not knock how good the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been.....they are one of the best pre-season football teams I have ever seen. They could actually be the greatest pre-season football team of all time. I believe they hold the record for winning the most pre-season football championships. There is no doubt in my mind that one day coach Jon Gruden will be inducted into the pre-season football Hall of Fame.

Exactly. This is the only response needed for the village idiot.
  • The Bucs won a Super Bowl???? Really???? Seriously I don't remember the Bucs ever making it to the SB.
Who did they play and What year was it? Was it that forgetable?

"The answer was in the Patriots eyes. Gone were the swagger and c0ck sure smirks, replaced by downcast eyes and heads in hands. For his poise and leadership Eli Manning was named the game's MVP. The 2007 Giants were never perfect nor meant to be. They were fighters, scrappers....now they could be called something else, World Champions."
