do you get disappointed when you see a coin for sale and you do
the basic research on it only to find out it used to be graded G6-VG8
for example and now sits in a VG10 holder?

Otherwise it is a nice coin but now you fully realize it is probably over
graded (tombed) and you have to pay a stiff price for it due to that.

-----

After staring at the coin for the last 15 minutes I have determined
they are not the same. So this is now a hypothetical thread.

I am sure people go through it all the time i just think the case I am
discussing personally is no longer valid.

I am still amazed at how similair the two coins are!

Forget the old plastic. If the current plastic is right (or wrong), that's all that matters.

    I hear you brother...

I have this problem ALL THE TIME with CBH's.

Here's the game: crackout a PCGS 64 and get it into an NGC 65 holder and viola! a just under 5k coin now becomes a "bargain" at the "discount" price of $8950 (vs. 10-12k for a PCGS 65). This scam takes a huge number of coins that I'm looking for effectively off the market for me and out of reach.

Buy raw fc and forget about the plastic.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

The coins I like do not come raw. They are all pretty much slabbed
and the only ones raw are problem coins from what I have seen.

No one is going to sell a 1865S half eagle raw now days... for example.

Or, if they did have a '65-S Half Eagle raw, there's a reason. And not one you'd want to be on the receiving end of! image

I missed the first phase of this thread, but like fc, it always gives me pause when I see the coin was recently in a lower grade holder.

The old saying, "a day late and a dollar short". You should be the one taking it from G4 to VG10image

Actually i have often wondered how many ofmy coins used to reside in older lower graded holders. Not enough to really look cause then i might not like the answer.

Well, I would say to look at the coin and grade it yourself. Maybe it was grossly undergraded before? Maybe it was overgraded?
What do YOU think the grade should be on the plastic and go from there

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
