Who is John Taube and Mears? I'm trying to decide whether to bid on a Michael Jordan game bat in abo

Does anyone know the reputation of either John Taube or MEARS? Are they any good? I'm looking at a Michael Jordan bat at Mastro's auction tonight that is supposedly game used. I'm considering bidding but I don't know much about game used equipment and would be relying on the opinion of Taube and MEARS. Are they reliable?

Thanks for your quick opinion, I only have about 40 minutes to decide whether to enter the bidding or not.

    Nevermind, I found the grading scale and the bat only grades a GU-7 which when you read their whole grading scale and factor everything in, is basically a bat that has a general probability of being used by the player mentioned. I don't like the bat grading scale. I think it should be like the autograph authentication. Authentic or questionable. Not different layers of probability that the bat is genuinely game used by the athlete.

    JT is one of the PSA game used bat graders and works closely with Vince Malta who is one of the most respected authorities on GU bats.

    MEARS is pretty big in the GU authentication arena and reputable. To their credit they at least try to abide by some form of ethical behavior which is very hard to do in the business they are in.

    Thanks for the info. I did join the bidding and am the current high bidder, but I'm not going to bid any higher. At the current price level, it's worth the gamble to me, and as long as the industry has confidence in PSA/DNA's John Taube and MEARS, then I shoudn't have any issue moving it in the future if I decide to.

    I had thought about bidding on the bat, but held off over similar concerns to yours. I'm glad that may be staying within the CU "Family" so to speak, but for your own sake, if there are any "upgrade" offers that come along with the L of A, take advantage of them for documentation sake.

    Oh well, just got outbid on the Jordan bat. At least I'm still high bidder on what I really want.
