Matte Proof Lincoln's for the week of 10-29

Down a few this week to 24. Some of those Mattes that were in the 10/24 Heritage auction should be showing up in sets soon. Heritage also added another 1909 65 RED in an OGH. They have two listed, but it’s a duplicate picture. Amazingly the 1911 listed on Ebay by Numiscent is a PCGS slabbed coin. Guess he knew the Posse would be on him if he tried to list another questionable raw coin.

A few more price increases this week on the value guide, mostly 13, 14 and 16’s

And on a personal note, as you all know I have a 64 R&B set with exception of one coin, my 1911. I have mentioned to a few here that the coin has a nice iridescent green reverse, but the obverse was flat and down right ugly. That’s why it’s the only coin pictured with a reverse picture. The more I looked at that coin under a loop, the more I felt I was simply looking through dirt with red showing beneath. Well folks, I cracked that SOB and gave it an acetone bath and it’s a red and brown coin now. Not sure what PCGS will say, but it’s going in as my quarterly freebie. I will keep you posted.

Till next week.

Good move on your part, albeit a gutsy one. I'll keep my fingers crossed that PCGS recognizes the beauty of the new obverse. Who knows, maybe with the "dirt" dissolved, an upgrade will be in order.

Again thanks for all the hard work you've done in compiling this list.image

No hope on an upgrade due to prints, I just want the R&B designation.

Bowers and Merena's photos of copper coins are WAY too orange! The photographer should re-adjust the camera. Please.
The 1915 PR66RB is my coin and it's a perfectly good example. Here are Bowers and Merena's obverse and reverse images:

Now here's Brian Wagner's photo. The color is MUCH closer to the actual color of the coin, and the resolution and Brian's lighting are much better, too.
I am putting this coin back into my "Golden" set until the auction is over. Anyone who is interested will be able to view this more accurate photo there.

    I am not kidding,

I collect 20-slab, blue plastic PCGS coin boxes. To me, every empty box is like a beating heartimage NOT.

People come up sometimes, and ask me, G99G, are you kidding? And I answer them no, I am NOT KIDDING.

    Every empty box?
    C'mon!

Oh man - what a differance in a photo that was probably changed by someone just maually hitting the 'auto adjust' button on a JPEG program!!!

It looks more like a scan and not a very good one.

There are other factors that would affect color as shown above, such as the light source and the white balance setting of the camera. In fact, those two sets of pictures side by side look like a perfect example of different white balances.

A big outfit like Bowers and Merena is probably too busy moving coins to worry about even comparing the coin in-hand under a proper light to their image, let alone adjusting their methods to achieve an accurate tone, whereas Brian most likely makes efforts to ensure this. On top of that, many times the closest you can even get it to looking right still doesn't it the nail on the head. There's nothing better than seeing the coin itself, which is why a return option is critical with any sort of mail orders, including internet purchases with the best photos out there. I like to tell my customers that the decision to buy the coin isn't really made until they receive it. Of course, it's probably hard for them to truly see it that way when you have to pay before making such a decision.
