What length ebay auctions work best for you?

When selling a coin on ebay, do you go for 3,5,7 or 10 day auctions?

Do you honestly see different results based on the different lengths? I would be curious to know if someone collected actual empirical evidence of one working better than the other.

Here is a sub question: Do different lengths work better for different material? (Coins vs Bullion or raw vs graded for example) Or do different times work better for different PRICES of material?

Please, let us know all your thoughts.

7 Days - Sunday afternoon/evening beginning and end...that's what works for me!
Positive BST transactions with: too many names to list! 36 at last count.
  • Now that ebay shows their listing as "Best Match" by default, it doesn't matter when you list.

If you are a small time seller, you will get power screwed becaus no will see your items. I think ebay is even power screwing the small guy with some kind of screen refesh feature. Whenever i am browsing a page of items i am looking for. The screen magically refreshes to the top opf the list. It keeps the Power seller best match in my face.

For anything non coin related. I use Craigslist. Wonderful concept and have a very high success rate for "garage sale" type items.

I'm just getting back into selling on eBay, but for me it was less about how long the auction ran and more about when it ended. i don't have the discipline or lifestyle to sit down every Sunday evening and run seven day auctions,, so if I got the time to list on a Tuesday I'd run them for five days instead, so they would end in "prime time." As long as they run a minimum of five days and don't end on a Friday or Saturday night, you should be fine.

If i do BIN or best offers i generally do them on friday evening. Saturdays and sundays seem to produce decent offers. On auctions i do 7 days and try to end them after 7 pm and before midnight my time.

  • Hot items I will list on Thursday night for 10 days so they end on Sunday prime time, most everything else is set to end Sunday prime time.

Doesn't really matter. I mix them up between 7 day and 10 day. I use 7 day for cheap junk, and 10 day for better material.

I list most every day and I use 7 days. Every day I list the things to sell the next week on that day. it makes it easier to keep trackof. If I miss a day (like yesterday when I got tied up) then I can go in two days later and put up a batch of 5 day auctions. It doesn't seem to make much difference as most people tend to look at them in the last couple of days anyway for common stuff.
