Multiple item bids - this is weird

I just bid on this lot - Topps Heritage Packs

There were 7 lots available (10 packs each), and I bid $16.77, with a quantity of 7 wanted. I ended up winning all 7 for my high bid. The seller's opening bid was $5.99, and there were only 2 others bidding on the item. It looks like I'm on the jook for 1ll 7 at $16.77 each, my max bid. Since there were only 3 other lots bid on, based on the bid history it seems like I should have won 4 of them for $5.99 (the opening bid), one for the increment above $5.99 (the bidder who bid on one lot), and 2 lots for the increment above $11.99 (the bidder who bid on 2 lots.) This seems to go against every other ebay auction I've ever bid on. You can bid $100, but if you're the only one bidding, and the opening bid is 99 cents, you win it for 99 cents. Anyone able to shed some light on this?

Thanks-
Jeff D

Dutch auctions (like this one) are different. You pay what you bid if you bid on everything.

    From Ebay:

"Winning bidders will pay a price equal to the lowest winning bid. Winning bids are selected in order of bid price per item. For example, a bid for 5 units at $12 per unit is ranked above a bid for 10 units at $11 per unit. If two bids have the same price per item, the earlier bid is given priority. If the only bidder in a Multiple Item Auction bids on the full quantity the seller is offering at an amount over the opening bid, that bidder will be the winning bidder for all items at the price bid per item."

Since you placed the high bid on all 7 items, you were the "lowest" winning bid.

  • In other words, type in "KY jelly" on eBay and bend over.

Exactly, you bidded on all of them. If I have three apples, 1 guy offers me $0.50 for one and another guy offers me $10.00 for three, the lowest offer for any apple is $10.00. If I had four the lowest offer for any apple would be $0.50.
