Who's gotten a better ebay story on why a seller can't mail stuff out?

I love getting these e-mails:

I need to let you know that I will be making all shipments on Thursday October 28th. I am sorry for this inconvenience. I was in the hospital getting a kidney transplant and will not be released until Thursday. When one is on the transplant list, they just call and say drop everything and come to the hospital. I had no time to suspend sales.

I guess people now have e-mail access in their hospital room. I guess it's possible this is true - but I would rather have an ebayer seller just send an e-mail apologizing for an unforeseen delay in processing my order.

  • I am not sure the reason people feel the need for excuses either. By the way, it might be a few years before we get a Thursday October 28th.image

  • Rec'd a similar email from stuff_xxxxxxxxx and they have told me the same story before. But they did mention it was a re-visit or whatever.

i read on one guy site a while back where he said " he only ships once a week-post office is 50 miles away, so i if you want your stuff quick- buy it off somehwere else"image

Handyman went to Sweden and then went hunting and when another board member threatened to come see him, he then sent the board members their cards. This was the worst transaction I ever had. Simply terrible. It still bothers me.

In my view, that is ONLY bad because the new EBAY says
    it is bad.

Sellers should be able to set their own terms, and buyers
should pick/choose the sellers they want to buy from.

    ........................

My incapacity instructions assure that everbody gets their stuff or money.

My death instructions give my current helpers control of the EBAY things to close or keep going.

Incapacity plans are especially good if you recover and want to
start back selling. It's hard to do with a page full of NEGs for INR.

    ............

A few days ago, a buyer got an email from a guy saying his wife had
died and there would be a delay in shipping.

A few days later, the same buyer got an email from the guy's daughter
saying the guy had died and there would be a delay in shipping.

It's on one of the EBAY boards.

Being on the transplant list myself I can say with 100% certainty that what that person said was correct.

As for having internet service I can see that too.

At least the guy informed you.

    Good for you.

I was searching for a similar PC to send another collector friend in Maine. I'd finally found this rare specimen, bid and won. A couple of days pass by and I recieve his email to me, " Sorry Steve, I messed up. I'd sold that card, to you, a few months ago and don't have another."

He refunded and promised a free postcard, so he was very kind about it.

But it was too late for me, I told my friend that it was on the way and he was too happy to tell him about the SNAFU. So, I just sent him mine.

So, if anyone crosses paths with this pc. Please let me know image

Sorry for the delay in responding to this post, but I was busy this morning with a personality transplant as my old one was on its last nerve. Seems when I posted a non-partisan response to a "political" thread over the weekend, I drew the wrath of CJ and was issued the cease and desist order or my plug would be pulled. I immediately contacted my doctor and advised him of the dire importance and that time was running short. Anyway, as some of you are aware, when you're on the list and they call you and tell you that they have a new personality for you, you drop everything.

Sadly, this new personality seems to lack some of the biting sarcasm and cynacism that my old one had. I think the transplant came from someone that is a nicer and more gentile than I ever was. I'm just hoping that my body doesn't reject it as I already get more than enough of that from the wife.

I know stuff happens I just hate excuses as to why you can't ship-out in an appropriate amount of time. Instead of e-mailing something that might sound like a lie just apologize for the delay and let me know when the stuff will ship out - leave out the possible BS.

If you order something from a real company, like Macy's, they keep
you updated about delays in delivery, BUT they NEVER give "excuses
or explanations." That is the way EBAY sellers should play it, too.

As Steve said, it does happen.

However, it's a safe bet, that most of the "stories" we get from buyers and sellers are totally untrue.

In fact there was span of time maybe 8 months ago when a bunch of my buyers were having injuries and hospital visits.

It happened so often, I was begining to think it was a curse that everyone got when they won my auctions...lol

Actually that comment makes me believe him more - he's not concentrating fully on things other than the serious operation, to the point where he got the date confused - makes sense...I just passed a kidney stone a few days ago and there were moments I might not have remembered what year it was - LOL
  • I won an '01 Fleer Platinum Pujols rookie for about $15 dlvd. Waited about 10 days before sending email asking if card had been shipped. By this time the card was selling for $50+. Seller sent me a reply saying his house burned to the ground and his cat died in the fire. He sent a refund, I left positive feedback and let it go. He relisted the same card a week later.
